Syria activists: 22 civilians die in fighting near Damascus
2017-11-17 | |
The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says that since Tuesday, 22 civilians died from government shelling and bombardment of the rebel-held Eastern Ghouta suburb. It says 29 pro-government fighters have been killed while scores of rebels were killed or maimed. The fighting is the latest breach of a local truce, brokered by Russia, ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... and Iran. The activist-run Ghouta Media Center says 15 non-combatants were killed on Wednesday, when Ahrar al-Sham ...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. They make up the main element of the Islamic Front but they don't profess adoration of al-Qaeda and they've been fighting (mainly for survival) against the Islamic State. Their leadership was wiped out at a single blow by a suicide kaboom at a crowded basement meeting in September, 2014... rebel faction penetrated into a Syrian military compound in the area to battle pro-government fighters there. The fighting is still underway.
