Foreign Nationals Outnumber Americans in High-Paying, White-Collar Silicon Valley Jobs
2017-11-22
[Breitbart] Silicon Valley Leadership Group President Carl Guardino touted the statistic in a report, revealing that 57 out of every 100 jobs in Silicon Valley that require at least a bachelor’s degree are taken by a foreign-born resident.

The revelation comes as President Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, has led an initiative to increase educational funding of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields while ignoring the issue of mass immigration and multiple visa programs that have led to Americans being replaced by foreign nationals.

For instance, Ivanka helped secure $200 million of the Department of Education’s grant funds towards STEM fields, Breitbart News reported.

#7  H1B destruction of well-paying engineering jobs in the 90's and 00's basically drove native-born US citizens out of that field. So fewer Americans have gone into it.

These are traditionally male dominated fields, and American males are being driven out of universities, as well as being gelded by feminist and socialist ideologues who run the colleges. So there are not only fewer, but any with leadership and executive acumen are going into other fields.

#6  being able to pay your bills and eat has a certain satisfaction too.

Simply being a credit worthy consumer may be a personal goal but does not advance society.

#5  No BP. Going back to the 80s such pubs as Computerworld would be filled with jobs listings. Those job listings would be composed of requirements that no one could fill to the letter. They were bogus paper fillings by HRs to justify hiring H1B people. There has never been a follow up by any government agency to see if the hired fit the job description. They've played this game for nearly 50 years depressing the natural supply demand process that would have resulted in far more American qualified personnel coming on line to fill positions. Like soft degrees without employment prospects, the Silicon Valley Robber Barons have reduced the legitimate prospects of those studying in the IT fields. Thus creating the shortage in the market today.

If they want to take their business and development elsewhere - GO. They'll find the corruption and political quicksand will eat up anything they think they are going to save.

#4  Also.

No amount of subsidy will cover over the massively poor incentives created by the governments debt encouragement schemems and credential mis-selling.

Unis need skin in the game. They should not get their paid until the student earns above average wage.

#3  To be honest here.

These are mainly jobs that would be unfilled or mal-filled (and the company would move abroad or outsource dev entirely) if no migrants were allowed to work.

The secret is to look at the pay, charge migrants for the right to work in the US at a level that means no migrant can work for lower than average wages.

#2  Unfortunately a lot of really bright young people asspire to be lawyers in the US. Or they listen to the "follow your dream" advice and wind up with degrees you can't find a job in. And then are saddled with crushing debt. Its my opinion that as a society we should be promoting the trades as a career path more than we do. Maybe being a welder, or HVAC tech, or an electrician, or a tool and die maker, or a mold maker isn't as glamorous as being a fashion designer, or a web page creator, or a graphic artist but being able to pay your bills and eat has a certain satisfaction too.Not every kid coming out of HS can or should need to go to college in order to live a decent life. They may not have the apttitude for acedemics but are talented in other areas. Yes we need college graduates with usefull degrees in areas of study that benifit society. But graduates with degrees in African Story Telling, Womans Studies or any of the bullshit degrees dreamed up by acedemia in the last 40+ years. Not so much

#1  STEM is a passing trend. Advanced degrees in ornithology will make a comeback, you'll see.
