[Bangkok Post] A member of a police squad providing protection for teachers was killed and another injured by a bomb blast in Yala province on Tuesday morning. The bomb went off on a road in Bannang Sata district. It was planted under a traffic sign and was set off when the police security team arrived at the spot. Two NCOs riding on a motocycle at the front of the patrol bore the brunt of the blast.
Police investigators found debris, including electronic circuitry, and about 50 spent M16 cartridges were scattered over the area. Police said the improvised bomb weighed about 30kg and was detonated by radio.
Authorities believe the attack was aimed at creating unrest.
