[Omaha World-Harold] A Bellevue man shot himself in the hand while demonstrating the proper way to clean and take apart a gun, Omaha police reported.Two Omaha men, ages 23 and 25, told police that a 23-year-old friend was showing them how to clean a Springfield XD 9 mm about 6:30 p.m. Friday in their home west of 72nd Street and Military Avenue. He decided to show them how fast he could take the gun apart.
Both men told police they were in the kitchen when the friend racked the gun’s slide and ejected a bullet. The man then tried to show them that the gun was empty by holding the muzzle of the gun to his hand and pulling the trigger.
As the man said, "It happens to the best of us."
