Afghanistan seeks world pressure on Islamabad for consensus in Taliban talks: Haley
2018-01-18
[GEO.TV] Returning from a UN Security Council visit to Afghanistan, US Ambassador Nikki Haley
...Trump administration's ambassador to the UN. First woman to serve as Governor of South Carolina, and the second Indian-American governor in the country, after Bobby Jindal of Louisiana. At the age of 39, Haley was the youngest governor in the U.S., a distinction formerly held by Jindal. She is a Republican, which really grates on the Dems...
on Wednesday stressed the Kabul government wants world powers to step up pressure on Pakistain for consensus in talks with the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
Haley joined the 14 other council envoys for talks with top Afghan leaders in Kabul at the weekend as the government considers holding peace talks with the Taliban to end decades of insurgency.

"They feel confident that the Taliban will be coming to the table," Haley told news hounds at UN headquarters.

While the peace talks will be Afghan-led, the Kabul government did request that the Security Council weigh in to bring Pakistain onboard.

"They did ask us for consensus to put further pressure on Pakistain to come to the table and change their behaviour," Haley said.

The Afghan government is making strides towards stability, she said.

Haley, however, did not specify what measures could be taken to pressure Islamabad.

The Afghan government also requested council help to address narcotics production and trafficking, looking at "every country that moves them," she said.

The council visit - the first since 2010 - comes as the government holds a conference next month to present its strategy for reaching a settlement with gangs.

#9   Don't let your clearance lapse meneer.

You go, Pappy! Illegitimi non carborundum

As for the Korben Dallas thing, there is something to be said for talking to people in a language they understand.

#8  When dealing with the Taliban, I prefer the Korben Dallas negotiation style. Effective, and get the point across!

#5  Ah, our dear friend Pakistan,
Cuddles up with us, along with Afghanistan.
Then they'll give us the back of their hand,
That's all there is to understand.

#4  Oh boy, was I pleased to see Pappy
Remindin' us everything's crappy!
Got right back to fightin'
My trite Enid Blyton,
But, just for a moment, was happy.

Seriously, though.

#3   As long as it (Pakistan) agreed to sell us Bin Laden, it was our friend.

More like 'friend of convenience'.

You can find those listed under 'escorts' in the directory, btw.

#1  Finally, a UN Ambassador that understands Pakistan is not our friend and has been a source of instability in the region since its birth, and terror as of late.

She has all the "piss off the progressives" checkboxes ticked: Patriotic, Conservative, Republican, Religious (Catholic adult convert), strong, and unafraid to slap down the evil regimes and the UN (redundant?) in public. What makes its sting is they cant go after her with the victim card because she is female and ethnic minority and family is recent (legal) immigrant who worked their way up.
