Turkish Army hurls another mechanized battalion at Kurdish forces in Afrin battle
2018-02-19
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Ottoman Turkish Army has deployed tens more infantry fighting vehicles to the frontlines in Syria’s Afrin region as part of a reinforcement package aimed at bolster its hitting power against Kurdish forces.

Yesterday, photos emerged showing one of several new mechanized companies that the Ottoman Turkish Army is deploying to Afrin in a bid to offer more fire support to troops and allied proxy fighters currently battling Kurdish forces throughout the region.

The mechanized reinforcements are ACV-15 infantry fighting vehicles.

In addition to severing as traditional battle-wagons for mechanized troops riding into battle, the semi-asymmetrical nature of the fighting in Afrin has also seen the armored vehicle be used as a standalone fire support weapon.

To this end, the 25-mm cannon on the ACV-15 offers exceptional hitting power against soft-targets and earth-based positions.

Although the Ottoman Turkish Army reinforcements are being deployed at battalion-level strength, they will likely be dispersed into separate infantry units when they finally enter combat.

#5  Not enough, Sock.

If they are taking out IFVs in large enough numbers for another battalion to be sent in, the Turks are not doing too well.

#4  How many armored vehicles have the kurds destroyed since this little fiasco started?

#3  It’s underpinnings are older, from the M113 design.

Lesson unlearned - Train as you are going to fight, maintain unit cohesion.

#1  To my admittedly inexpert eyes, the Turkish wagon looks a lot like a Bradley. Form follows function or a little borrowing among "friends"?
