Suspected IS militants kill two Iraqi mayors in Diyala

Baghdad (Iraqinews.com) – Two Iraqi mayors were killed on Monday night in separate armed attacks believed to be carried out by Islamic State (IS) militants in Diyala province, government sources were quoted as saying.

Speaking to Alghad Press Tuesday, the sources said, “The mayor of Umm al-Henta village in northeastern Diyala was killed alongside his son after six armed men knocked the door of his house on Monday night.”

His daughter was also wounded in the shooting, the sources pointed out.

In a subsequent armed attack, the sources said, “Armed men opened fire at the mayor of al-Arab al-Kabira village, northeast of Diyala, leaving him dead.”

The culprits behind the two attacks are believed to be members of the Islamic State group, the sources noted.

Islamic State members killed as paramilitary troops repulse attack in Diyala

Diyala (IraqiNews.com) The pro-government paramilitary troops have repulsed an attack launched by Islamic State against a region, located in Diyala province.

In a statement on Tuesday, the media service of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) said “troops of the 110th brigade managed to kill IS members upon receiving accurate information from the intelligence department and Diyala security over presence of armed IS members in Wadi Jund in Khanqeen.”

Troops set up an ambush for the militants and managed “to kill all of the militants, including a prominent leader. The members were going to target security troops and citizen in the region,” the statement added.

Two tribal fighters injured in bomb blast, northeast of Diyala

Diyala (IraqiNews.com) Two tribal fighters were killed as a bomb blast took place, northeast of Diyala, member of the provincial council, said on Tuesday.

Speaking to Alghad Press, Karim al-Jabouri said, “a bomb, placed on the agricultural road between al-Dawaleeb and Habib Abdullah villages in Sherwin region, at the outskirts of al-Mansouriya region, went off targeting a joint patrol of Tribal Mobilization Fighters and army.”

The blast, according to Jabouri, “left two tribal fighters injured.”
