2018-04-20
[Iraq Sun] Citing murderous Moslem threat across the border, Iraqi warplanes carried out Arclight airstrikes on Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
positions in Syria.

An Iraqi military front man announced the airstrikes on Thursday and said that the strikes were conducted with the coordination of the Syrian government in Damascus.

The strikes, carried out by Iraqi F-16 warplanes, came a week after Iraq’s Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said his country would defend itself from murderous Moslem threats across the border.

The Iraqi military posted on Twitter, "Based on the orders from Abadi, the commander in chief, our air forces by using F-16 war planes bombarded ISIS terrorists' positions in Syria on the border with Iraq on Thursday."

Then, it said in an official statement, "Carrying out air strikes on ISIS gangs in Syrian territories is because of the dangers posed by said gangs to Iraqi territories and is proof of the improved capabilities of our armed forces."

Iraqi Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasool said the airstrikes were carried out in coordination with the Syrian government and were launched from within Iraqi borders.

On Thursday, Iraq's Air Force also released a video of an F-16 fighter jet taxiing on what appears to be a military air base.

Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi confirmed that he gave the orders on Thursday and tweeted a brief statement saying, "Our heroic air force carried out on Thursday in Syria near [the] Iraqi border deadly air strikes against ISIS's (ISIS) terrorist gangs."
