Romney denounces pastor slated to speak at US embassy in Jerusalem
2018-05-14
[The Hill] Senate candidate and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) on Sunday night denounced the pastor expected to speak at Monday's ceremony celebrating the opening of the new U.S. embassy in Jerusalem.

"Robert Jeffress says 'you can’t be saved by being a Jew,' and 'Mormonism is a heresy from the pit of hell.' He’s said the same about Islam. Such a religious bigot should not be giving the prayer that opens the United States Embassy in Jerusalem," Romney tweeted.

Jeffress, a Dallas-based pastor and known supporter of President Trump, said over the weekend that he would be leading the prayer at the dedication of the new embassy. Trump announced in December that he was relocating the embassy to Jerusalem, a move that drew international condemnation and sparked concerns of a widening conflict in the Middle East.

According to a report from Haaretz, Jeffress has made derogatory remarks about Islam in the past, calling it "a religion that promotes pedophilia" and a "heresy from the pit of hell."

#7  It's not like Romney to weigh in on religious matters - there must be a runoff to win in Utah!

Mainstream Islamic doctrine says that Mohammed was leading an exemplary life and should be emulated by the faithful.

Mainstream Islamic historiography says that Mohammed had sexual relations that would be classified as criminal pedophilia in most Western nations including the US.

#4  Those who point the finger and cry "bigot" are confessing what "bigots" and fools they are.
The truth is not biased nor "bigoted".
Those who decry the truth worship at the alter of the lie of "political correctness",
and have aligned themselves with the all the mainstream media who condemn anyone who would dare to speak the "politically incorrect" truth
and have become like all others who suffer Trump derangement syndrome.
Here I voted for Romney in 2012.
If Romney had won in 2012 we would have been saved from 4 years of Obama.
But Romney would have lost to Hillary in 2016 in a landslide and there would be no Trump in 2016.
But Trump has come in 2016 to be the the Ester of this world "for such a time as this" to save the world from the Hamans of this world.
I listen to Pastor Jeffress regularly on TBN and other stations.
Pastor Jeffress is not shy about the truth.
Trump can be loose with the truth, but as a leader does not suffer fools lightly.

#3  Book of Mormons which is the foundation of the Mormon Church was written by a guy by the name of John Smith, the husband to 40 wives.

If I read right, Jewish leaders ordered Christ to be crucified.

Islam, well, no explanation necessary.

#2  I can't remember anything good coming out of Massachusetts lately. Perhaps I should watch a bit closer.

#1  Trump is right about a lot of things because he has a keen sense for truth. So does Jeffress. Romney's political correctness is not truth. But New Testament theology could just be truth. Ulaigum Ebbineng7056, Member of First Baptist Church Dallas
