Iraqi oil fields guards killed by Islamic State attackers in Kirkuk

Kirkuk (IraqiNews.com) Two Iraqi oil field guards were killed early Wednesday in an attack by Islamic State militants in Kirkuk province, north of Iraq, a security source was quoted saying.

Kurdish network Rudaw quoted Hamed al-Obaidi, from Kirkuk province, saying that the attackers fired at a checkpoint at the oil fields in Dibis, northwest of the province

Obaidi said the gunmen wounded four others and managed to flee after the attack .

In a separate incident, Obaidi said security killed a suicide bomber before blowing himself up near the Dibis hospital.

Iraqi troops destroy two IS hideaways, arrest 9 suspects in Kirkuk

Kirkuk (Iraqinews.com) – Iraqi troops destroyed two hideouts of the terrorist Islamic State group and arrested nine suspects in Kirkuk, an Iraqi security center said in a statement.

Iraqi website Alghad Press quoted Yehia Rasool, the spokesman for the Iraqi Security Media Council, as saying that “troops of the federal police inspected several villages in Kirkuk, destroying two IS hideaways and arresting nine suspects.”

“The troops also destroyed five locally-made explosives and seized 14 Kalashnikov assault rifles,” Rasool said.

Three militants, planning to abduct civilians, arrested, south of Kirkuk

Kirkuk (IraqiNews.com) Three militants were arrested as the pro-government paramilitary troops thwarted an attempt to kidnap civilians, south of Kirkuk, the media service said on Wednesday.

A statement on the website of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) said, “information from the intelligence helped the 50th brigade to arrest three militants who were on motorbikes. They sneaked into Dakuk town.”

The operation, according to the source, caused no damages. The information “indicated that the militants were planning to abduct civilians from the town.”

Islamic State has resumed its attacks and explosions as well as blocking roads, abducting civilians and security personnel, despite operations carried out across the provinces. The group continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops.
