In pictures: Beer flows as Germany's Oktoberfest opens in Munich |
2018-09-22 |
[BBC] The first beers have been served at the Oktoberfest beer festival in the German city of Munich. About six million visitors are expected at the festival, which runs until 7 October. Last year about 7.5m litres (1.6m gallons) were consumed during the event. The festival began as a horse race staged to mark a royal wedding in 1810, with the first beer tents appearing later in the 19th Century. |

#3 I have never attended Oktoberfest; timing just didn't work out, sadly. I did get to the Munich Strong Beer Festival twice though. Small, very packed, great beer but it is their strong beer. Dark and sweet, with a real kick. The girls just take over both rest rooms. |

#2 My sympathies to those working security there, and my prayers that this time they catch the bomber outside the fence, just as they did last time. |

#1 Best beer I ever drank and the rowdiest teen age drunks pushing their way to the front of the crowd waiting to get into a beer tent. After three hours of waiting, I gave up and came back the next day. |
