#7  "Suddenly, he realized that the gas pump warnings signs only said shut your engine off. They said *nothing* about being stopped."

#6  Well they refuel in the air with their engines running right?

#5  @#1: Would be an interesting show for the KC gas-passers, no? ;-)

#4  Did this in the army with the trucks too. Allowed for very fast fueling and scooting.

The reason it is more dangerous is that there is always a greater chance of ignition for the spilled fuel (there is always spilled fuel) if engines are running. Having your tanker area catch fire is always frowned upon.

#3  If you don't shut 'em down, you don't have to do the dreaded dailies and preflights. just a splash of gas, swap the crew and send 'em on their way. Sometimes ordies get a bit testy if you want to re-arm while the power is still running to the pylons.....but that is what the weight-on-wheels switch is for, right?

#2  Aircraft are removed from service for maintenance and engine rehab based partly on engine start cycles. If there aren't enough assets, and critical missions, they can run longer if they run longer.

#1  All the gas stations I go to have signs saying to shut off your engine before fueling.
