POTUS plans to review case of Matt Golsteyn, military officer charged with murder
2018-12-19
[Wash Times] President Trump declared Sunday that "at the request of many," he plans to review the murder charges against Maj. Matt Golsteyn.

"He could face the death penalty from our own government after he admitted to killing a Terrorist bomb maker while overseas," Mr. Trump tweeted, calling the soldier a "U.S. Military hero."

On Friday, Army Lt. Col. Loren Bymer announced that the officer would be charged after killing an alleged Afghan bomb-maker.

Maj. Golsteyn admitted in a 2011 job interview with the CIA that he shot and killed the man, who be believed was responsible for killing two Marines in an explosion.

The Army Criminal Investigative Division never found any evidence or corroborating witnesses but based their conclusions off of his admission to the CIA.

#11  A Texas Ranger took it upon himself to ride across the US/Mexican border and apprehend a Mexican who had earlier cross over to the US side and shot a US citizen as he was coming out of the front door of a church.

The Ranger was reprimanded for causing an "international incident" and I believe he was fired. Fortunately the Mexican was not only not returned but was tried and hung. The ranger went on to become a Sheriff.

The Ranger viewed his authoritative pawers differently than his high command but was an excellent and fearless lawman.

#10  This guy is kind of high-ranking for this. Usually, the military uses lower ranking people when they feel it necessary to demonstrate their affinity with the NYT editorial page.
Had a relation, along with four buddies, accused of causing a replacement to commit suicide. Only when the last of five courts martial was in process did it come out that the prosecution was withholding the fact that the kid got to theater with a suicide watch note in his file. But the Army was going to show they Took This Seriously.

#9  Something very odd, including the CIA passing the information to CID and CID making the case based on the job interview/poly?

Perhaps the fellow he killed was a CIA source and he didn't know it ?

#7  At first I thought there might be a miscarriage of justice somewhere.

The more I find out about the guy, something's just not right.

Good bit of advice from your seniors, P2k.

#6  Comments 2 thru 5 all accurate. Talking to Bret Baier (or anyone else) about whom you shot in theater.... not very smart. Going on the BOX at CIA and telling shooting stories.... not very smart either. The questions are yes/no if I remember correctly.

I just have a bad feeling about this dude, and his teevee screamer wife.

#5  It's a signal. The 'old' team is still in place. Likely to do the SJW game on the man. The 'Chief' just alerted the old team that this is being watched carefully. He can screw with someone's future just like they can screw with Golsteyn's.

As one of my old seniors said - "You don't want my attention."

#4  Trump is not only the president, he is the commander in chief. He has every right to review any charges against troops, active or otherwise.

#3  I agree with regular joe. the military lawyers already failed by bringing him up on charges. This need to be dropped immediately.

#2  Disagree. Trump knows this is a question of justice, and has rightfully put the case under scrutiny.

#1  I believe it would have been better for Pres. Trump to have said nothing and let the UCMJ process take it's course. If there is to be one, a pardon can come at any point.
