| Elected Jatiya Oikya Front, BNP MPs refuse to take oath |

| [Dhaka Tribune] Jatiya Oikya Front, a political alliance of opposition parties, has declared that their elected members of parliament will not take their oath as lawmakers. The decision was taken by Jatiya Oikya Front leaders during a meeting held at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office, in Dhaka, on Thursday. BNP Secretary General and a key leader of the alliance, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said: “We will not take the oath as members of the parliament. The time for taking oaths has passed.” He furthered that Jatiya Oikya Front will file complaints with the election tribunal, along with reported evidence of vote-rigging collected from across the country. Oikya Front leaders will submit a memorandum to the Election Commission on Thursday afternoon, said Fakhrul. A 15-member delegate of Oikya Front—comprised of Mirza Fakhrul lslam Alamgir, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Mostafa Montu, and Subrata Chowdhury, and many others—will submit the memorandum to the commission. Around 174 Oikya Front candidates were present at the meeting. Earlier in the day, the swearing-in ceremony for 298 lawmakers, elected in the recently-held 11th parliamentary election, was held at the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat. |
