Confirmed by WAPO- Native American Nathan Phillips Never Served in Vietnam
2019-01-23
[IOTWReport] An overlooked correction to a story published at WAPO-

Correction: Earlier versions of this story incorrectly said that Native American activist Nathan Phillips fought in the Vietnam War. Phillips said he served in the U.S. Marines but was never deployed to Vietnam.
There is a difference between "I was in Vietnam." and "I was in during Vietnam." For additional clarification, let's see his DD-214, eh?!
Several veterans groups have reportedly filed Freedom Of Information Act requests with the Department of Defence for exactly that information.

#23  I see the innocent participants in this as continuing to be mugged by the MSM & the Twitterverse for years to come. They should stop giving interviews!

#22  Heard local AM radio station 700 WLW talk show host interview one of the school's chaperones Sunday around noon. She defended the boys and factually described the events as they later turned out on longer versions of video. The talk show host basically called the chaperone a liar and told her the boys needed more supervision. I'm still waiting for that a$$hole to apologize.

#19  The left is really chagrined this fell apart so quickly. My advice to people at public protests is watch out for wheel chairs and crutches, because the next play will be "Trump supporter attacks disabled veteran."

#18  Someone yesterday said, "He needs to put out a different statement, I’m disappointed with his statement. He didn’t accept any responsibility. That lack of responsibility, I don’t accept it.”
That "someone" was Nathaniel Phillips.

#16  I suspect he's a close friend of an old college professor friend who hangs with the older elders of the Pawnee Nation. They tend to be around Dannebrog Nebraska link

You would know my old college professor friend as he used to be on CBS Sunday Morning when he was a state Poet Laureate. He first started with the Ogalla Sioux and then switched somewhere in there to working with the Pawnee.

#14  Reckless disregard of the truth

Reckless Disregard Of The Truth
reckless disregard of the truth

or
reckless disregard for the truth

1 : disregard of the truth or falsity of a defamatory statement by a person who is highly aware of its probable falsity or entertains serious doubts about its truth or when there are obvious reasons to doubt the veracity and accuracy of a source [the knowingly false statement and the false statement made with reckless disregard of the truth, do not enjoy constitutional protection "Garrison v. Louisiana, 379 U.S. 64 (1964)"]
2 : a reckless lack of attention to the truth that misleads or deceives another (as a magistrate) [whether false statements were made intentionally or in reckless disregard of the truth in support of the warrant "State v. O'Neil, 879 P.2d 950 (1994)"]

#12  Not Elder: another old person, but Elder: as in respected village elder.
There is a lot of context here most won't know. Natives can't be Elders until they pass 55 years of age, it's the custom. I always though that seemed a bit too young until I started tracking the die off of the natives doing my family history research - a great many don't survive to age 65, due to alcohol, accidents or disease. The convention is to call any native who looks old enough an Elder, even if they are just old enough and lack any other distinction. What little I was able to find about Nathan Phillips the day the incident news broke showed that he liked to get his face in the news, that he had some good PR people supporting him, and that his story / demeanor / language was very, very fishy. No one has yet disclosed whether or not he is enrolled in any federally recognized tribe. I know I am. I have a plastic ID card with its barcode to back up what I say.

#11   But it's truly frightening that millions of people across the country still believe them.
Even worse is the fact that those millions learned nothing whatsoever from the fuller story of what happened at the Lincoln Memorial that day, they are still mouthing off in comments all over the internet regarding this brouhaha. They are 100% complicit in this network of lies, and they are NUMEROUS.

#10  So now, after they blew an insignificant incident totally out of proportion and disrupted the lives of everyone associated with Covington High School, WAPO publishes a correction? The damage is done, innocent lives have been put at risk because Jeff Bezos hates Donald Trump. It's too late for a correction. They committed libel for partisan purposes and they need to be sued for all they're worth.

The most troubling aspect of this story, aside from the death threats to innocent kids, is that WAPO and the rest of the mainstream media made no attempt to verify or corroborate anything that Nathan Phillips told them. They presented it without question to the American people as the Gospel truth. Other outlets across the country eagerly ran the story without question.

Nor did they make any attempt to get the students' side of the story. That's Journalism 101, folks, and there's no excuse for not doing it.

This is slanted, one sided, chickenshit, biased, bigoted, dishonest and hateful fake news at its worst. They know better. They can try to characterize it as a mistake, or just sloppy journalism, but they know better. They lied, deliberately and with malicious intent.

I happened to be in the room yesterday when Mrs. Uluque had ABC's The View on television. (Trust me, I do not make a habit of this.) I was astounded when Whoopi Goldberg began the show by admitting that the media made a snap judgment about the students before gathering all the facts.

"Why do we keep making the same mistakes?" she asked.

To which her cohort Joy Behar replied, "Because we're desperate to get Trump out of office."

Behar smiled as she said this and exhibited no shame or remorse, as if her hatred for Trump is a valid excuse for outright lies. She didn't care at all if those students are getting death threats or if their school had to be closed because they're afraid it might be bombed or shot up.

So the mask slipped. It isn't just Behar, it's all of her colleagues in America's mainstream media. They were all complicit. They were all willing to sacrifice their integrity for the higher cause of their hatred for Trump.

I have learned that these so-called news organizations are unreliable, more like propagandists for the Democrat Party and the Deep State. But it's truly frightening that millions of people across the country still believe them. First I get scared and then I get seriously pissed off.

#7  My cousin served during Viet Nam.

Electronics tech in the Navy....wound up shore based in Napels Italy, spent weekends on the Riviera, married an Italian hottie who's a doll, passed away last year at 75. The closest he came to combat was sailing to the Eastern Med in the late 60's

Is he actually using tribal funds and if so, which tribal funds (or is he funded by Soros or some other source)?
