AOC And/Or Her Chief Of Staff May Have Committed A Major Ethics Violation
2019-02-18
[LID] New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s boyfriend, Riley Roberts, was found to have a government email address. Her team was quick to say that Roberts was not a member of AOC’s staff. Therefore he’s not earning a salary. But their denial doesn’t really pass the smell test. If they’re being honest and Roberts is not on the payroll, it’s a different violation of Congressional ethics.

#16  I found Instapundit from the Wall Street Journal’s Best of the Web favourite sites list. I no longer remember if Instapundit sent me here, or BotW, Little Green Footballs (before he went nuts), or some other site. But it was some time in 2003, and I was so awed by the conversation that it was positively ages before I dared say anything at all.

information about TGA, some of which I hadn't known.

You’ve been busy having a high intensity law career, Matt, whereas I’ve had time to just hang out here.

#14  It's going to be a long 2 years of this sort of nonsense out of that imbecile child's office. She will not be held accountable for anything.

#11  She claimed this was so he could see her calendar, which strikes me as odd.

It's not just odd, it's bullshit - she could have given the guy remote access to her congressional server and limit his access to the calendar / scheduler application, read access only.

#10  tw, thanks for the information about TGA, some of which I hadn't known. In my mind I always imagined him as a great man (and a great poster.) And I thank you also for the rest of your comment.

For whatever it's worth to you, the very first day I started attending a Catholic High School, and I mean right after "Hello", we all went to the school auditorium and watch an unvarnished film about the Holocaust. And I've stood with Israel ever since.

#9  TW, I couldnt respond to your argument for the Catholic church yesterday.

746, The Catholic church is a human organization, and therefore will never be perfect. The question, in my opinion, that must be asked is whether overall it has been significantly less imperfect than other large organizations over time, and whether it has been a force for good or evil.

Pope Sylvester II does have a long and interesting resumé. But in modern times Rantburg’s own True German Ally, who unfortunately died years ago after surviving both Nazi concentration camps and Soviet gulags, was very pleased that his former neighbour and chess opponent became Pope Benedict XVI. Among other things, Pope Francis’ predecessor changed how the church deals with investigating and punishing sexual abuse.

#8  @#1: As the Defendant must be able to understand the charges brought against them, this 1D10T is pretty-much impeachment proof.

#4  The whole civil service system needs to be redone so that any kind of ethical lapse results in immediate dismissal and jail time for serious effronts like participating in a coup attempt. I doubt that congressional aides are covered by civil service, given how critters exempt themselves from laws, but maybe they should be.
