[ELUNIVERSAL] Sixty uniformed Venezuelans have defected and crossed into Colombia this Saturday, the Colombian immigration authority reported in the midst of an escalation of tensions over the announced entry of essential aid to Venezuela. They are "60 members of the different Armed Forces of Venezuela (who) have fled the dictatorship of Maduro by Norte de Santander and Arauca, during today," said Migración Colombia in a statement. |

#4 AP puts the defect # at 100 but says almost all low level |

#3 if you had a nice buffet spread out for troops willing to abandon Madero, that would probably help a lot |

#2 Keep the loyal troops close to the flag pole and you lose the questionable troops who will desert at the borders. Keep the questionable troop close to home and put the loyal troops on the borders and you risk a coup. It's sort of easier when you are literally an island. Something else when you have lots of borders. |

#1 Keeping the military fed no matter how hungry the populace might be is a staple of running a military dictatorship. When you can't do that it's game over. |
