Attack the navy with 5000 speedboats? Didn't Japan try that with planes in Okinawa?

#19  Wonder what an FAE going off in the middle of their formation would do. Hard to hit, I'd imagine, but...

#18  Refresh my memory: are these the same people who gave kids plastic keys to paradise and sent them in to clear minefields?

They don't have to destroy our whole military--just enough to induce one party to drop support.

I'd love to know what exactly is going on behind the scenes here...

#17  20mm Oerlikon. The US Navy kept trying to retire it and kept rediscovering that it is needed for dealing with small craft especially inshore.

After watching a few you-tube scenarios of 50 cals against drone speedboats in training sessions, my money is on the speedboats.

#12  These are Flying Carpet Boatsâ„¢, unimpeded by waves

#11  Kamikazes had some success but it was a bad deal for the pilots and, as you may recall, they lost Okinawa as well as all the other major battles in the Pacific after Pearl Harbor.

#10  We really should quit tying our hands behind our backs in combat situations and just liquidate the attacking enemy.

#9  Boats going 100 mph can not deal with waves.
Fuel air explosives over the waves or something bigger under the water would end the threat. Just saying and it wouldn't be PC. Napalm wouldn't do bad either...

#8  A speedboat doing 157 kph? Isn't that like 100 mph?

On a glassy lake, maybe. But just wait until they upgrade to the stealth speedboats!

#7  Two words: Phalanx CIWS

#6  Target area saturation is what the Iranians are going for. More missiles than we have the ability to shoot down. It is a good and cheap strategy for them. For now. Once the laser AWS (Anti-weapon systems) start being deployed, we can take out a vastly greater number of missiles and speedboats with those things.

#5  ..and what did Japan look like after it was over? Sort of encouraged the idea to throw at them anything and everything before the next invasion schedule.

#4  Yes and it worked quite well in Okinawa. They caused a great deal of damage.

#3  Bad comparison. Japan didn't have standoff high speed missiles.

#2  It's not 1945.

#1  It's 1945. Technology is much more sophisticated. It'd be like shooting fish in a barrel.
