POTUS orders intel agencies to cooperate with Barr probe into 'spying' on 2016 campaign
2019-05-24
[The Hill] President Trump has ordered U.S. intelligence officials to cooperate with Attorney General William Barr's investigation into "surveillance activities" directed at the president's 2016 campaign, the White House said Thursday.

Trump also gave Barr "full and complete authority" to declassify information related to the investigation, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement.

The notice comes as Barr is conducting a review of what he has described as "spying" on members of the Trump campaign during the investigation into Russian interference.

Sanders said Trump had directed the intelligence community to "quickly and fully" cooperate with the investigation at Barr's own request.

"Today’s action will help ensure that all Americans learn the truth about the events that occurred, and the actions that were taken, during the last Presidential election and will restore confidence in our public institutions," Sanders said.

Barr told senators last month that he was reviewing the "genesis and conduct" of intelligence collection on members of the Trump campaign during the period of the 2016 election, saying he believed the campaign was spied on.

Barr’s use of the term triggered massive protest from Democrats, who viewed it as legitimizing a conspiracy theory.

FBI Director Christopher Wray, who was appointed by Trump to replace James Comey, seemed to distance himself from Barr’s use of the term earlier this month when he told a Senate panel that he wouldn’t use the term "spying" to describe government investigations.

Trump and Republicans, who have long alleged the Russia investigation was started by FBI agents biased against the president, have heralded Barr’s decision to look into the origins of the investigation.

#12  Hire the Inspector Generals that Obama emasculated fired and give them authority to terminate anybody obstructing. They should have a good idea where all the skeletons are buried.

#7   Declassification Letter.

I wonder why the Department of State (Hillary's old stomping grounds) wasn't included in the distribution of the declassification order?

#6  Probably because an Eisenhower of today would appear as a Putin to some people ? That wouldn't be acceptable to even Republicans.

#5  Ref #2: His main fight is with the deep state, the Left-appointees, corrupt intel officers and an activist judiciary.

"Deep state" meaning... all of the above to include many feckless politicians of both parties.

Herb's comments harken back to the Eisenhower era and his warning with regard to the "Military Industrial Complex". Strange isn't it, we've not had a former General Officer as POTUS since Eisenhower, nearly 70 years. They all seem to stumble along the way. Strange, very strange.

#3  As if they view the law as an impediment. They're answerable to a higher cause than our silly Constitution. It is their destiny to usher in a new era of world peace by way of making endless war, and any obstacles in their way they are the carping of mindless children.

#2  No they don't but that's illegal. A legitimate executive order places them in a position where they can be booted for 'not complying'. He could very well start kicking out people for even failing to respond to queries and calls by Barr.

At least in theory. Trump is really flexing his muscles, has been for quite a while. He could get the dems to agree on everything that benefits the US commerce wise because half of the left don't understand it, and the other half (the older ones) were secretly cheering him.

His main fight is with the deep state, the Left-appointees, corrupt intel officers and an activist judiciary.

#1  LOL as if the intelligence community takes orders from the president! Laughable! They rule themselves and we answer to them, not the other way around.
