#5  The red crescent is the only one "authorized" to transport terror and arms, however

#4  Oh, I know about the David's shield thingy, TW. I just meant what was so wrong with the old universal red cross ? They supplied aid from internment camps to enemy trenches in the two great wars, they were the very symbol of universal humanity. It's ironic that the red societies that sprang up in countries after the Swiss guy's work formed a federation and Turkey first began this 'cresent' nonsense back then it was Ottoman .
Forgive me, but I think it stupid to vie politically over an innocent, universal symbol.

Sigh... but of course we must do it. Or everybody else will have their own symbol leaving out ME ! Oh dear ! While we're on that, they should've gone for the Moses' serpent thingy. GaWD would've...smiled ?

I realize my gaffe though. The red crescent is the local society of Libya part of that federation. There seem to be only red crescents and crosses and a lone shield o' David in the list. In the future, there could be a 'red vindaloo' ambulance taxiing my sorry arse home. Oooerr.. !

#3  It helps to research first and comment afterward. ;-) According to Wikipedia, the “red crystal”, an empty red diamond for use internationally and in the West Bank/east Jerusalem, was approved in 2005, 74 years after they applied for membership to the international organization, while the Star of David was approved for green-line Israel (and Gaza by implication) only.

#2  The red cross and red crescent have long been internationally approved. The Red Cross organization fought a bitter rear guard action to prevent adding the red star of David to that list, but I think they might have finally succumbed.

#1  I remember they added symbols to accommodate sentiments, the original universal red cross only exists in India I think. There's a red lion and a red crystal and a red jabberwocky and what not.
