PolitiFact: Can a nuclear bomb stop a hurricane? No, it’s a myth
2019-08-28
[TAMPABAY] As the Caribbean prepared for Tropical Storm Dorian and its potential to reach hurricane-strength, a news report by Axios based on anonymous sources claimed that President Donald Trump
...Oh, noze! Not him!...
has repeatedly asked federal officials to explore using nuclear bombs to stop hurricanes.

For his part Trump disputed the story, calling it "ridiculous."

For our part, we can’t fact-check whether or not Trump considered such a strategy since the claim is based on anonymous sources. But we can explain the science behind why nuclear bombs can’t slow down storms.

#11  One perhaps can't stop a hurricane, but it pretty much will stop you from worrying about the hurricane.

#10  Maybe Russia knows. Why must you think of everything ?

#8  >the thing about models is they are what you utilize when reality won't give you the answer you want.

We talking about Epstein again?

#7  #6, the thing about models is they are what you utilize when reality won't give you the answer you want.

#6  I'm sure they can come up with any mathematical model to justify what they want. The Warmongers do that regularly. The ruling class have no problems with those models (even though subsequent checking of predictions show a significant failure in any corollary).

#5  Me, I'm expecting to hear that the transit of TS Dorian past Little St James (Epstien's island) totally obliterated everything there and getting any evidence is impossible.

#3  cloud seeding the eye of a cat 3 or higher hurricane would weaken the hurricane's peak winds by 10-30% according to many numerical model simulations, depending on various assumptions regarding size, general movement, etc.

however, the decline in the overall energy of the hurricane would be much less, more like 2% to 10%, again based on the numerical model and the size of the hurricane, etc.

I don't think any numerical simulations have been done regarding the nuclear bomb issue. There are many problems doing the simulation, including the strength of the bomb, whether the explosion is above the surface, at the surface or underwater, etc. It's something of a nightmare to try to tackle this issue.

#2  We need a bigger bomb.

#1  But how do you know until you try? This could be the best ever episode of MythBusters.
