Jackson Lee: House Members Will Have to Start 'Flooding' the Senate to Get Gun Control
2019-09-17
Contrariwise, if they don’t get a veto-proof majority in the Senate, there won’t be gun control.
[PJMedia] Rep. Shiela Jackson Lee (D-Texas) said members of the House of Representatives would have to start "flooding" the Senate in order to get gun control measures passed.

"I don't know what else it takes but I don't believe we can stop at the door of the United States House. I believe there will have to be an emergence of members of the House flooding the United States Senate for Senator McConnell to understand that these initiatives today, my gun storage bill, my bill that I've introduced dealing with the caliber weapon, I've held an AR-15 in my hand, I wish I had it. It is as heavy as 10 boxes that you might be moving and the bullet that is utilized, a .50-caliber, these kinds of bullets need to be licensed and do not need to be on the street," she said recently on Capitol Hill.
She has never held an AR-15...

#38  ...no fun fire discipline. Everybody auto, then sudden silence. As everyone is trying to slam another mag in the gun, the other boys send ordnance your direction.

#37  i'd always thought Automatic fire was good for fire suppression but it kills your aim, and empties your clip really fast, which is why the 3 shot selector came into being.

Shouldn't we encourage things that empty your clip while screwing up your aim? Or am I off?

#36  This is the basic problem with republic style government and more so with pure democracy. True believers believe what they believe. Win or lose they believe you should believe what they believe too. Believe it or not they don't care what you believe if it isn't what they believe. And you can believe it, brother...

#35  The 2nd is a God given right, Jackson Lee is a corrupt legislator, not God. She can vote all she wants. She will never take our guns without a civil war to bring the constitution back into line.

#34  Maybe the people in her district could spring for the cost of enrolling her in some pro-firearms organization although I'm afraid it wouldn't help her condition.

#33  Burning ammo is fun in practice situations. In full contact it's problematic.

#30  Per #28: Dreidle Dreidle Dreidle. And let the camel get his nose in the tent, then double tap..

#29  Good stuff. But look into 80% receivers. That's what you want if you know someone with a drill press.
Posted by: M. Murcek   2019-09-17 10:04

#28  South Carolina-based Palmetto State Armory has just the thing for customizing or building your AR-15 rifle: A lower receiver named (and labeled!) NOBETO-15.

#27  Messing with gurgle should be a high rate of fire affair in the digital sense.

#23  Also. A double eagle will be real money again.

#22  If it all goes full on FUBAR there will be shops turning out Sten type pistols for not much gelt per copy. Ammo will be a bigger deal.
Posted by: M. Murcek   2019-09-17 09:14

#21  I'll be honest. I have an M1A. I'd rather have the AR and more ammo. I have a DSA SA-58 pistol. It's a blast but not a substitute for a battle rifle.

#20  And, per #17, hajis learned to fear the sound of individual shots. Told them marksmen were coming.

#19  There is a reason the Las Vegas shooter had so many guns with his bump stocks!
Posted by: DarthVader   2019-09-17 09:00

#18  You can get bump stock results with your belt loop and thumb. Or a rubber band. I won't link to any of that but it's easy to find.

#17  g(r)omgoru there are some pretty easy ways someone with minimal metalworking skill can do to make an AR automatic.

I wouldn't recommend it as not only it is illegal, but the civilian AR isn't designed to sustain a heavy firing cycle for an extended time. The AR will jam pretty quickly.
Posted by: DarthVader   2019-09-17 08:59

#16  Still think it's better left undiscussed on the record. But I imagine if you had a contest some guy would win with a Wrigley's gum wrapper in under a minute. No it would not be reliable but a great proof of concept.

#15  #9 I've read the same article but I do know that good gunsmiths can do wonders - so, what's the answer to my question?

p.s. Not that I'm an adherent of automatic fire - my instructors in basic had very definite opinions on the subject.

#14  Eh, lots of 223/5.56 upstream ain't a bad thing. Hell, bullet technology has made the 380 viable. I've got a tactical AR with a 24" barrel in 6.8 SPC (270 cal, God's own caliber if you buy into Jack O'Connor's gospel.) It does a job. At range.

#13  BTW, if you simply must have a hot black rifle, you want an Omen
Posted by: M. Murcek   2019-09-17 08:12

#12  the number of manufacturers of AR-15 style variants and knock-offs increased from 29 to about 500.

Of course they did. AR's are like Legos for adults. What's not to like... other than the .223/.556 thing?
Posted by: Mercutio   2019-09-17 08:06

#11  The main question is "would I want to be shot with (name your caliber)?" I'd really rather not be shot with a 17 HMR or above. I might survive but I might get to carry my intestines around in a bag after that. Not a fan of that lifestyle.
Posted by: M. Murcek   2019-09-17 08:06

#10  Not a topic to go on record about, G. But lots of things are easier than hitting a good sand wedge. There are 50 cal BMG semi autos but the mag well alone is as big as an AR lower. It's purpose built and that's a good thing. A 50 BMG round is a lot of remedy.
Posted by: M. Murcek   2019-09-17 08:03

#9  All knowledge of the AR-15 style weapon, which I happened to be reviewing yesterday. A couple of interesting factoids:

From 2000 to 2015, the number of manufacturers of AR-15 style variants and knock-offs increased from 29 to about 500.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation has estimated that approximately 5 million to 10 million AR-15 style rifles exist in the U.S.

#8  But the idea of AR - 15 shooting Barrett rounds, MM!!!

Incidentally, anybody has an idea how long would it take a competent gunsmith to turn an AR - 15 into a fully automatic?
Posted by: g(r)omgoru   2019-09-17 07:51

#7  As for specialty caliber ARs, what a waste of time. If you want to shoot hogs, get an AR 10 and be done with it. Better variety of ammo and more reliable. If you are going after dangerous game like big bears, the last thing you want is a compromise round designed to feed in an AR receiver. Get a 375 H&H or 300 Win Mag and put Smokie down humanely.

#6  Average AR weighs about 6.5 pounds. So she hasn't lifted many boxes either. No surprise there. OTOH I'm sure her bag man knows what $10k cash weighs with his eyes closed.

#2  The .50 Beowulf is a rifle cartridge developed by Jeffrey Ulatan [1] of Alexander Arms for use in a modified AR-15 rifle.

#1  I'm no gun expert but I'm 1,000% sure the AR-15 doesn't fire a .50 round. Early lead for the Dumbest Democrat of the Week Award.
