Trader Joe’s removes pictures of circus elephants from packaging after PETA complaint
2019-09-21
[NYPOST] People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is praising Trader Joe’s after the grocery store chain redesigned some of its packaging, allegedly at the animal rights group’s urging.

In a statement to Fox News, PETA said that it contacted Trader Joe’s about its use of circus elephant images on items such as peanuts, peanut butter and toilet paper, pointing out that it was “standard practice to beat, shock, chain and whip elephants” and other animals used in circus performances.

It has not been confirmed if the redesign has taken effect at all stores nationwide, though PETA stated that Trader Joe’s CEO Dane Bane assured the organization once the existing stock of peanut butter jars are sold out, the next shipment will no longer contain the circus elephant image.

“The new designs at Trader Joe’s perfectly reflect that our society no longer tolerates beating elephants into submission for circus shows,” says PETA Foundation Deputy Director of Captive Animal Law Enforcement Rachel Mathews.

#6  Zero Cost to Trader Joe for this virtue signalling. The circuses have shut their doors so this is akin to Trader Joe announcing, with great fanfare, that they will not allow Vaudeville acts with blackface or Travelling Minstrel Shows on premises.

Next they will ban Zeppelins in their parking lots for the convenience of their customers! (insert picture of the Hindenburg(1937) here)

#5  Aldi, along with Trader Joe’s is owned by Germany’s Albrecht family. Karl served in the Wehrmacht during World War II and was wounded on the Eastern Front. A very wealthy German family.

There is a Trader Joes nearby. We go there occasionally. There is an Aldis a litter farther down the road. The customers seem to have a left-wing inclination. TJs has a poor layout and the flow of people is not good. Most of the people who work there are friendly although I ran into one who was surly and could use an attitude re-adjustment. It seems that TJs is going PC...virtue signaling to their customers? Good for business.

#4  The new California state gag:
A bear trudges leftward (in drag)
Cuz he hasn't a car,
Barely skirting the tar,
Through a landscape bizarre,
Towards a cheerful red star...
But his energy's startin' to flag.

#3  When will PETA go after the California state flag? It has an image of a bear on it!

#2  The illustrated elephant and his siblings were then disposed of, hundreds of cartons burned as the old packaging had to be destroyed. PETA could not be reached for comment on that.
