#3 No wonder Chaney was really running the show.
As I recall, George W. Bush’s undergraduate degree was in history, so he must have had some idea. And he engaged in competitive book reading with his friends, including Dick Cheney, so the odds that he was unaware seem low to me. The statement always struck me as intended to give at least American Muslims an out to not take up the gauntlet of jihad, and to the world-wide Ummah as well.
Many here have done so — despite traditional prejudices brought from various Olde Countries, CAIR’s support is orders of magnitude smaller than they claim. The example of the Tsarnaev family is instructive — despite the mother veering toward Salafism, neither parent was supportive of the boys’ little project when they learnt about it, nor were the uncle and the sisters, and when the parents individually returned to whichever Caucasian state they came from, the rest of the family remained here. Yes, it could be they are playing a longer game, but they all seem happier in a country where Islam is not given a preferred place. |
