To the east of this location is a Saudi AF Base, the province is a predominantly Houthi ethnic area, so perhaps view this entire affair as "mini civil war" aimed at "liberating the province" and combining it with the Houthis in the western provinces of Yemen to establish a South Sudan state or Eritrea.

#1  Really, not far from the Yemeni/Saudi border, Southwest corner of Saudi Arabia.

Airport looks like a large facility for the adjacent area, with sufficient highways to service it. Looks to be civilian aviation, but given the ongoing conflict with the Houthis,it may have been converted to joint military/civilian use in the last few years.
