Nine people executed in Egypt over Kerdasa police killings in 2013

The process most definitely being the punishment, by the time they were hanged — Egyptian soldiers generally not being sharpshooters — they were no doubt grateful the ordeal was over.

Nine people were executed on Monday over their involvement in an attack on Giza’s Kerdasa cop shoppe in August 2013 that killed several coppers, sources said.

The execution was carried out at Wadi al-Natrun prison in the early hours of Monday.

Monday’s execution comes nearly three years after Egypt’s Court of Cassation upheld death sentences against 20 defendants after a Cairo Criminal Court sentenced the defendants to death in a retrial in 2017.

Prosecutors charged the defendants with storming the Kerdasa cop shoppe in Giza on 14 August 2013, killing 12 coppers and two civilians and mutilating their bodies, attempting to murder 10 other coppers and destroying the cop shoppe.

The defendants were also charged with torching several police vehicles and being in possession of heavy firearms during the attack.

The attack on the station followed the forced dispersal of sit-ins in support of late ousted Islamist president Mohammed Morsi in Cairo in August 2013.

Maybe we could borrow the Egypt Court System manual for a few weeks?

Because, their Arrest to Trial to Verdict to Sentence Execution is under 7 years?

While in the USA we seem to have a Arrest to Conviction to Execution cycle that runs 15 to 25 years.
