Patrick Leahy signals he'll run for ninth Senate term
2021-05-23
[MSN] The Senate’s longest-serving oligarch Democrat, long assumed to be on the cusp of retirement, is leaning toward giving it another go.

Sen. Patrick Leahy
...Democrat Senator-for-Life from Vermont, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, source of more leaks than a plumber could keep up with...
(D-Vt.), who has served since 1975 and is in the line of presidential succession, is asking colleagues to support his potential campaign for a ninth term, according to Democratic senators who have spoken to him. The 81-year-old has also indicated to them that he believes he’s "the only Democrat that can win the seat," said a person briefed on the conversations. Given that Bernie Sanders
...The only first openly Socialist member of the U.S. Senate. Sanders was Representative-for-Life from Vermont until moving to the Senate for the rest of his life in 2006, assuming the seat vacated by Jim Jeffords. He ran for the 2016 nomination for president, to be cheated out of it by Hillary Clinton, then went back to being an Independent socialist, waiting for 2020 to roll around...
is an independent who caucuses with Democrats, Leahy’s the only Democrat ever elected to the Senate from Vermont.

If reelected, Leahy could take the record for Senate longevity in a chamber famous for its octogenarians. He's not the oldest senator — four others are older than he is — but he experienced a health scare earlier this year that prompted anxiety among his fellow wardheelers.

In an interview, Leahy said he hadn’t really thought about running again. He held a fundraiser this week for his reelection and raised more than $300,000 in the first quarter of the year. Leahy said he and his wife, Marcelle, typically decide by December before the election year whether he should seek another term.

#10  Move the Elections to April 16th and require a contributory tax return and voter ID to vote. Problem solved only citizens who actually pay for it get to vote.

#8  Some of this can be done indirectly. If Congress fails to pass separate appropriations for each Department and Agency by 30 September for the next fiscal year, all members are barred from elected or appointed federal offices for a period no less than 10 years. That would have a tendency to focus their attention to one of their primary jobs.

#7  ^-- and the President loses the power to Pardon or issue non-emergency executive orders until the next congress convenes - unless he was re-elected.

And since we are fantasying... Everyone must re-register, in person, with photo-ID and proof of citizenship, every 4 years. And Voter-ID to vote.

Oh and a pony!

#6  Amen P2K. Representatives get two six year terms, so does the Senate, and the President gets two 4 year.

Also move voting to first Tuesday of Dec., end congressional business then and the new congress does not convene until the second week of January. No more lame duck bullshit from the party that lost congress.

Patrick my Son, You need to stop and smell the roses along the way of Life, in your case, Dear Brother, the Lilies are but a short time ahead in your Road of Life, not too far away.

I would suggest you take the exit, that has been so graciously provided by the Lord Almighty, and retire to your home. Amen
