- LaPierre claimed his travels - which took place during the summers of 2013 to 2018 - were 'security retreats' after his life was threatened
- However, while he was using the yacht he attended the July 2013 wedding of his niece, Colleen Sterner, in the Bahamas
- The LaPierres and Sterners are also accused of cruising around the Caribbean in McKenzie's yacht around the same time
- LaPierre, who hired Sterner at the NRA, claims all of their family's travel was for the benefit of the organization
- NY AG Letitia James sued the NRA in 2020 alleging top leaders diverted millions of dollars away from the organization 'for personal use by senior leadership'
