Olympic gulag: Athletes are 'crying like crazy' in hellish quarantine with miserable food
2022-02-08
[MAIL] Dozens of athletes thrown into virus isolation at China's zero-Covid Winter Olympics have laid bare their misery - describing 'crying like crazy' after being hauled out of bed at 3am before being fed miserable food in rooms too small for exercise.

Beijing is attempting to hold a virus-free event in the midst of a pandemic, cutting off competitors and their teams in a bubble where tests must be taken every day, with anyone who tests positive dragged off to isolation.

But conditions in isolation are reportedly dire. Valeria Vasnetsova, a Russian biathlete, claims she was served the same inedible meal three times a day for five days in a row - and that it left her so emaciated that her 'bones [were] sticking out'.

Head of German team Dirk Schimmelpfennig also blasted 'unacceptable' conditions for his athletes, saying isolation rooms are too small, not hygienic enough, the food is poor and PCR tests that athletes must take to free themselves are not being given.

Natalia Maliszewska, a Polish speed skater, described being repeatedly moved into and out of quarantine over successive days due to conflicting Covid test results, an experience she described as a 'trauma' that left her 'crying and crying'.

#16  On to 2026, in the Italian cities of Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo. Facilities and food should be better.

#15   Food and feasts are such a big thing over there, yet this time athletes are posting photos of near-starvation rations.

Curious. Perhaps humiliating the foreign barbarians is the point. A number of countries are doing a 'diplomatic' boycott which has to be embarrassing for China. Appearances do still matter - take tennis star Peng Shuai's "everything is groovy" interview, for example.

Or could it be for competitive advantage? Athletes need calories to fund their physical efforts. Lack of glucose means poor performance for the foreigners. It would not be the first time a communist regime used famine as a weapon.

#14  The notion that china is an inevitable juggernaut is just one more piece of conventional wisdom. Widely circulated and not particularly wise.

People who have a brief window to make a name for themselves as an olympic athlete really can't be very choosy....

Perhaps they chose poorly.

#12  One has to wonder how bad it is overall in China if they’re doing such a visibly bad job of delivering this Olympics after their last one was such an impressive spectacle. Food and feasts are such a big thing over there, yet this time athletes are posting photos of near-starvation rations. Quite possibly they’ve passed their tipping point.

#11  Yeah, well. People who have a brief window to make a name for themselves as an olympic athlete really can't be very choosy about which olympics they compete in, or where. And at the organizing level, it's a political event and the host countries are chosen for political reasons.

#10  Some athletes there be getting less naive day by day.

#7  Get all of these people OUT of there! Now!

Also, I wouldn't put it past the commie rat bastards are doing this to injure the athletes and reduce their effectiveness. Commie subjugation stunt.

Oh wait: the future is here already

Arresting children... can mandatory butt swabs be far behind? (Boy, how that would make Kommissar Ezekiel Emanuel's putter flutter)

The world should have rightly boycotted the Chinese Olympics after the Chinese plague and the Chinese cover up and the Chinese human rights boo boos. People must stand up for something and not go about business as usual. There are assholes willing to kneel and sing and streak for shit causes like BLM and what not, risking their sports careers all the time.

#4  Look at the food at the link. It looks like they went dumpster-diving to collect the food for the athletes.

#3  Why would anyone want to be treated like a peon in a Third World country? We value being in the First World because as a society we’ve worked our way out of the deprivations of national poverty, and in general work very hard to maintain First World standards. Nobody is stupid enough to want to live like that — not even them, which is why so many from the Third World are flooding in through our open borders and sending their wives and daughters to have anchor babies in our hospitals.

#2  It's the same food Chinese people eat. I thought they don't want special treatment? They're not getting special treatment. They're being treated exactly the way Chinese people are treated in quarantine. Hotel room, 3 meals a day, PCR tests via swab stuck way up the nose.

They're not outraged because they're being treated unequally. They're outraged because they're being treated equally.

#1  I hear Michelle's school lunches would be considered feasts by comparison.

had a link which showed a 'meal' but can't locate it now. Must be what the chinese serve their slaves...
