| [JPost] Russia's defense ministry summoned the US military attache on Saturday after complaining of an incident in which it said a US submarine violated its territorial waters A Russian naval vessel chased away a US submarine in Russian waters in the Pacific after the submarine ignored a Russian order to surface, Interfax news agency cited the defense ministry as saying on Saturday. The Russian ministry called in the US defense attache after complaining that the submarine had entered its waters, the RIA news agency reported. Tensions between Moscow and Washington are already high over a Russian military buildup near Ukraine. The submarine was spotted near the Kuril islands early on Saturday as Russia was conducting naval exercises with its Pacific Fleet and it was ordered to surface immediately, the Russian ministry was quoted as saying. It said the order was ignored by the US submarine's crew, leading the crew of Russia's Marshal Shaposhnikov frigate to use unspecified "corresponding means" to make the vessel leave. "The US submarine ... left Russian territorial waters at maximum speed," the defense ministry was quoted as saying. There was no immediate comment from the United States. Russia's defense minister spoke by phone with his US counterpart on Saturday as the United States and other Western nations warned that war in Ukraine could ignite at any moment. | #8 Seems that a US Virginia-class sub (a fast attack boat) was shadowing a Russian naval exercise when it was detected by Marshal Shaposhnikov, an Udaloy-class anti-submarine frigate. When the Russians encouraged the sub to surface, it deployed a decoy and left the area. What are the chances a Russian ship could detect a US submarine ? The Virginia class should be pretty quiet as long as sneakiness is the order of the day and no one is distracted running Pronoun Drills. We shouldn't be too surprised a sub-hunter found a sub. It would certainly show up if you drove over it with active sonar. Lately, the USN has been experiencing ship-handling issues. My theory of the crime, based on absolutely no evidence whatsoever, is the sub had issues maintaining periscope depth and breached the surface which reduced its stealthiness. | #6 I know a little about a number of topics, but absolutely nothing about naval tactics, techniques, and procedures. Question: What are the chances a Russian ship could detect a US submarine ? What are the chances this alleged incident is a Russian fabrication ? |

Desperate to regain credibility and to counter the obvious impotence of the man in the White House, Joe’s mandarins have made all sorts of vaguely threatening pronouncements regarding Ukraine and shoved forward a wide range of U.S. military assets into Eastern Europe. The obvious danger of stumbling into war has been disregarded. Men who have never heard a shot fired in anger, never put their lives on the line, and have no earthly idea what strategy they are pursuing have put the whole world in danger. We may be about to pay the price for that incompetence. ...This is the way wars start. All it will take will be one exchange of fire. An aircraft will go down. A ship will be torpedoed. Lives will be lost. The clamor to hit back will begin. The men who run the world’s biggest defense contractors will join the push. The prospect of endless profits from another conflict will be too great to resist. War is an ugly, brutal thing. It ought not to be entered into lightly or without sober reflection. The price for imprudence and incompetence will not be paid by the men and women behind desks in DC. It will be paid, as always, by the young men and women of our small towns, farms and blue-collar neighborhoods. We are adrift in perilous waters with a senile empty suit of a President who sold his soul to Communist China long ago at the helm. He is surrounded by spineless incompetents who now seek to pose as men of strength and project power. There could hardly be a more dangerous combination.
