#15  It will be interesting to see how the Syrians respond against an enemy not overly concerned with a negative world press.

#14  #13 and 19,000 Syrian mercenaries are being deployed to protect the supply lines.

In WWII, German troops protecting supply lines were used as partisan hunters.

The Syrian mercenaries are still being advertised for, as of the other day. Hardly any had been actually hired yet, so who knows what they’ll be qualified to do.

#12  For information: MIC is Military-Industrial Complex, right?

#11  #10 I have heard that their reserves are going to the cities, and 19,000 Syrian mercenaries are being deployed to protect the supply lines.
I predict lots of war crimes in the near future.

I suspect that the Syrians will find out PDQ that there's a hell of a difference between a berserk, semi-literate jihadi and a trained, motivated Ukranian. They'll probably be longing for the piece and quiet of Syria in no time.

#9  As the Russians slowly grind down Ukraine and the tragedy of mistakes grows, I hope we do not fall for the MIC efforts to create another marketplace for endless arms sales and expenditures to keep the carnage going as a zero sum game. Putie is awakening to this being an existential struggle for himself, and I think he has that inbred slavic /Rus fatalism that might toy with a Götterdämmerung moment in extremis.

#6  One of the main problems with Russian weapons that their best integrated circuit tech is 20 years behind the world. Even then, their best fab is not commercial scale and can't make the quantities needed for their military. Now Russia will also be cut off from commercial and dual use chips.

#5  What happened to the Russian Boogeyman that US Taxpayers spend $$$ TRILLIONS defending against?

Those trillions went on display in Iraq I and II.

The Europeans never got around to covering their part (like the whole part) of their own defense. They expected the Americans and Russians to mutually immolate over them.

#3  What happened to the Russian Boogeyman that US Taxpayers spend $$$ TRILLIONS defending against?

It died in the late 80s and no one noticed. We have been building up against "near peer" adversaries and only in the last few years (see Syria and now Ukraine) have we seen that the Russian stuff isn't even close to peer level. It is little better than the stuff Iraq had in 1991.

Yeah, the Russians have some kewl high tech toys... but they cost a lot to produce them and they can't afford to put them into mass production. And the money spent on them hasn't gone to military upgrades or training. What little went there was hovered up by corrupt generals and spent on yachts.
