Such politicians from Capitol Hill should be invented by our propaganda, but Jamie Ruskin really exists. And on closer examination, it can seem like a devil to any person with moderate conservative-patriotic views. Anyone - both Russian and American. This is how he, this Ruskin, is a radical liberal, a vegetarian, a friend of all minorities. At home, always the first on LGBT rights and drug legalization.
Perhaps even an atheist simply does not admit it - for American political culture this is still a rather provocative confession (a kind of nostalgic sediment from "good old America," which was still afraid of God).
On our side of the Atlantic, when sorting through the biographies of "these from the Congress," it is customary to single out "ours" by origin, since there are not so many of them. Ruskin is just one of them, he is the grandson of emigrants from Russia, Ben Ruskin and Anna Goodman. Perhaps he belongs to that type in the American elite, whose Russophobia is caused by tragic family traditions. Jews at the beginning of the 20th century moved from the Russian Empire to the United States, fleeing, among other things, from pogroms.
But it is also possible that the fate of grandparents has nothing to do with it, and other biographical circumstances of the "useful idiot" are to blame. First of all, he was born and raised in the US capital in the marriage of a "progressive" journalist and an official who served as an adviser to President Kennedy.
The city of Washington (D.C.) is a good place for an official, but a bad place for a politician, and for a Republican politician, it’s completely damned. In presidential elections, Washingtonians have been voting only since the 1960s (although they paid taxes like everyone else), since then the Republican candidate has not won in the capital even once, including the 1984 final "Reagan vs. Mondale" (Reagan then took all the states except his own for Mondale's Minnesota) and the 1972 Nixon vs. McGovern final (Nixon took everything except liberal Massachusetts, later the first state to legalize gay marriage).
There are many reasons for this. Illegal migrants, who were protected from deportation by federal legislation, were striving for the capital district. The vast majority of its population is black. A significant part are officials who live off the budget, the expenses of which the Republicans always promise to cut.
But the most unpleasant thing for local political activists is that their ceiling is to become the mayor of the city. The District of Columbia has no governors, no senators from it either, and there is only one representative in Congress, with the right only to an advisory vote, and his name has not changed for decades.
In general, running for Washington is unrealistic, it makes no sense to be a Republican there, and a Democrat needs to somehow stand out among a huge number of the same Democrats with a "progressive agenda." But Ruskin got out.
In Congress, he represents Maryland's border district , essentially a suburb of Washington. Presumably, he is as liberal as the capital, and with great competition among democratic politicians. It is the place where it is beneficial to be the most repulsed to the left. Here is Ruskin and repulsed.
In the House of Representatives, he chairs a subcommittee on oversight of civil liberties. From the point of view of the American right, this is a serpentine.

Two more of this "Team" - Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley - are also members of the subcommittee, as is Eleanor Holmes Norton - the same non-voting representative of the capital in Congress, who has been in her chair for more than 30 years.
And Ruskin is over all this cocktail of BLM, LGBT, feminism as a communism chairman. At the same time, a rich white man. You have to be a particularly fierce fighter against traditional values in order to make a career for yourself.
However, Ruskin's most stellar role is that of Donald Trump's personal nemesis . He is one of the few congressmen who refused to recognize the results of the 2016 election. And when Trump refused to recognize the results of the 2020 election, Ruskin was appointed by something like a prosecutor in the House of Representatives' trial of the outgoing president (the result is impeachment).
In general, sincerely or in the role of a fanatic, but Raskin hates Trumpists, pro-lifers, opponents of gay marriage, etc and is implacable towards opponents. And the Orthodox Church (in English - Orthodox Church) is certainly associated with patriarchal views in him more than any other.
In short, Raskin wants to destroy Russia not because he hates Russians and not because he hates Orthodoxy, but because he hates what is called traditional values, as well as their bearers. By his audience, they (we) are perceived as a threat.
The price Raskin mentioned for the destruction of Russia as the bearer of traditional values is the destruction of the United States as the bearer of everything. The concept of mutual nuclear destruction has been nothing new for more than half a century, but the Americans apparently need to be reminded of it. At least the head of civil liberties in their parliament.
But this is where the rubric "this is what scum looks like" can be ended, since Ruskin (regardless of his motives to destroy us) is not only scum, but also the very useful idiot. For two reasons.
First, in the final analysis, he wages war not with us (the patriarchal Lord does not give horns to vigorous liberal cows), but with half of his own country. When he says he wants to destroy us, he means that people like the Trump electorate need to be destroyed. And the Trump electorate (more broadly, all Americans with conservative views) now knows this. Here in Russia, the quote from Ruskin reached the Republican-oriented Fox News and personally Tucker Carlson, the most popular political show host in America.
The more logs the radicals throw into the fire of the smoldering civil war in the United States, the better for Russia. To be more precise, the United States, by its actions against Russia, made it so that the worse it is for them, the better for us.
Secondly, Raskin is living proof of the correctness of that part of Vladimir Putin's speech at the ceremony of expansion of Russia, which dealt with the problems of Western hegemony. It is desirable that now this proof be seen and heard in other places, from the Orthodox allies of the United States in NATO in Bulgaria and Greece , and ending with the rest of the world of traditional values, that is, the whole world, minus a couple of dozen countries with the liberal triad "BLM-LGBT-feminism."
It would be dishonest to pretend that all American politicians are like him - not all, this one is rather special. But he is not just "one of the deputies", as one could say about the late Vladimir Zhirinovsky - a great artist in terms of verbal aggression.
Ruskin represents a wealthy suburb of the American capital. He is part of the elite of the ruling party. He holds a leading position in parliament in a priority direction for the ruling party. He is also a brilliant lawyer, a seasoned lawyer, an honors student at Harvard, a professor of law at the American University in Washington - this is in addition to the fact that he is a sick bastard.
It means that there is such a ruling party, such a parliament, such a capital, such Harvard, such lawyers, such professors, such an elite, that a person who is ready to destroy the world at any cost has become an organic part of them.
