ISIS Claims Attack On SDF In Deir Ez-Zor
2022-11-11
[NPASyria] Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
Organization (ISIS) grabbed credit on Wednesday, through close outlets, for attacking a checkpoint of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

ISIS-run Amaq news agency reported that ISIS holy warriors attacked one of the SDF checkpoints in the town of al-Busayrah, some 35 km east of Deir ez-Zor, with machine guns and RPGs.

The attack resulted in the injury of several SDF fighters and material damage to the checkpoint.

This is the second attack on the same checkpoint where ISIS holy warriors targeted it two days ago and caused the death of two SDF fighters and the injury of one another.

Although the SDF launches intensive security operations in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, the region has recently witnessed an increase in killing incidents carried out against SDF fighters, employees of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), tribal figures and civilians.

On Wednesday, ISIS grabbed credit for two attacks against the SDF in the east of Deir ez-Zor.

#2   What benefit we derive from protecting the Omar Oil field is also unclear.

The Kurds benefit from the income of selling the oil, I believe.

#1  The Pentagon has managed to cloak US military activity in and around Deir ez-Zor governorate and northeast Syria. To what extent the US retains its base there (which was under attack in late 2021-early 2022) is unclear. What benefit we derive from protecting the Omar Oil field is also unclear. The Syrian government has been perfectly aware of the US presence and actually seems to support it even though it has termed US presence in Dier, Hasakak and Raqqa “state piracy” employed to steal Syrian natural resources.
Why no reporting? I realize that American media is lazy, but is its activity in the region proscribed?
