Afghanistan was a primary beneficiary of India’s military training programs among the regional countries before the fall of the Republic government in the Mid-August of 2021.

The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDFA) was allowed to apply for up to 1,000 slots each year at Indian institutes, including the Indian Army Academy in Dehradun and the Officers Training Academy in Chennai.

After the fall of Kabul and took over of Afghanistan by the present regime, the Afghan officers and police who were in training in India could not return to Afghanistan.

According to the Ministry of national defence, during the past few months, scores of students have returned to the country after completing their program in New Delhi and were assigned to the Ministry.
