Turkey arrests pro-Kurdish party’s parliamentary candidate
2023-04-27
[Rudaw] Ottoman Turkish police on Wednesday arrested a parliamentary candidate of the pro-Kurdish Green Left Party for alleged links to Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Istanbul.

’s parliamentary elections on the ticket of the newly-established Green Left Party in Kocaeli province, was arrested in her house in Istanbul on Wednesday, for charges that include "membership in a military terrorist group" and "breaking the law regarding prevention of financing terrorism," according to the state-owned Anadolu Agency.

The pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) is fielding its candidates under the Green Left Party as the former is facing a closure case at the Ottoman Turkish constitutional court.

Both parties are yet to comment on the arrest.

The state media posted pictures of Donmez, wearing traditional Kurdish clothes with someone who is believed to be a member of PKK, in a mountainous background. The location and the time of the photos are unknown.

The independent news outlet, Bianet, reported that the candidate's arrest is part of a wider investigation into the activities of the pro-Kurdish party in Kurdish area.

Ottoman Turkish officials have accused the HDP of being the political wing of the PKK for years, and Ottoman Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu claimed on Tuesday for the first time that the new pro-Kurdish party is affiliated to the PKK as well.

HDP has denied any links to the PKK but it has said that the party respects the ideology of the group’s incarcerated

leader Abdullah Ocalan.

This is not the first time that Kurdish politicians in Turkey have been accused of having links to the PKK for their photos with alleged members of the PKK.

In January last year, Ottoman Turkish media published photographs of HDP politician Semra Guzel with a PKK fighter. She was accused of being a member of the group. The politician confirmed the photographs, saying she and the fighter were college colleagues and later got engaged, adding that the pictures were taken during the short-lived grinding of the peace processor between the PKK and Turkey in 2013.

She was arrested in September same year in Istanbul after going into hiding for months.

PKK is a Kurdish gang struggling for the increased rights of Kurds in Turkey. Ankara considers it a terrorist organization.

Ottoman Turkish police arrested at least 110 pro-Kurdish lawyers, journalists, screeching muppets and politicians, including a bigwig of the HDP, on Tuesday for alleged links to the PKK ahead of parliamentary and presidential elections.

Green Left Party is founded upon instructions from PKK: Turkish interior minister

[Rudaw] In a televised interview on Tuesday, the Ottoman Turkish interior minister slammed the Green Left Party (Yesil Sol) for having ties to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), hours after Ottoman Turkish police arrested over 100 pro-Kurdish journalists, politicians and self-proclaimed geniuss for alleged ties to the group.

Ottoman Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu, appeared as a guest on a program of the pro-government 24 TV, where he talked about the Green Left Party’s ties to the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP).

"The Green Left Party is founded after instructions from Qandil itself, in order to be an alternative party to HDP," he said. He referred to the Qandil mountains in the neighboring Kurdistan Region where PKK bases are located. The area has also been subjected to sporadic bombing by Ottoman Turkish forces.

The comments from the Ottoman Turkish minister came hours after Ottoman Turkish police arrested at least 128 people for alleged ties with the PKK, which Ankara considers a terrorist group.

"If we look at the candidate lists of the said party, includes turbans from the mountain [Qandil]," said Soylu, implying that the candidates of the Green Left were former PKK Lions of Islam who want to become members of the parliament.

, it requires approval from the ministry of interior, as well as a signature from the minister himself.

HDP is a pro-Kurdish leftist party that includes members of different backgrounds in Turkey. They mainly advocate for Kurdish rights, and the rights of the ethnic, religious and other minorities in the country.

HDP’s stance as opposition has attracted the ire of the Justice and Development Party (AKP)-led government, being subjected to several raids and arrests in the past few days. HDP’s former co-chairs Selahattin Demirtas and Figen Yuksekdag have been jugged

since 2016 for alleged terror crimes.

HDP itself is facing the threat of being closed down as the Ottoman Turkish prosecutor’s office filed a case against the party at the Ottoman Turkish constitutional court for its alleged ties to the PKK. HDP refused to have a defense in the hearing of the case on April 11.

HDP will contest the elections as the Green Left Party, and they are viewed as the decisive factor in the elections. The party also expressed implicit support for the opposition presidential candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu to unseat current President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First

In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important...
