The Supreme Court of the LPR sentenced Ruslan Galko, who served under a contract in military unit 3018 of the National Guard of Ukraine. He was found guilty of committing crimes under Part 1 of Art. 356 (ill-treatment of the civilian population, the use of prohibited means and methods in an armed conflict), Part 3 of Art. 30 and part 1 of Art. 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (attempted murder).
The investigation established that since February 2021, Galko has been serving in the military as a grenade launcher. On the night of April 22-23, 2022, as part of a unit, he arrived in the forest belt area adjacent to the city of Rubizhnoye. Of the weapons, he had a Kalashnikov assault rifle and 120 rounds of ammunition for it, as well as an American-made PSRL-1 rocket-propelled grenade launcher and three ammunition for it, of which two were with a cumulative warhead and one with fragmentation.
On the morning of April 26, 2022, Galko received an order, together with his colleagues, to inspect nearby multi-storey residential buildings in the city of Rubizhnoye in order to identify representatives of the opposing side. Ukrainian servicemen found out that civilians live in the houses.
Inspecting the empty building of the school, Galko saw a man in civilian clothes on the street from the second floor window. Having no reason to consider him a representative of the opposing side, Galko loaded a grenade launcher with a fragmentation warhead and fired. As a result of the detonation of ammunition, the man received shrapnel wounds, he was promptly provided with assistance. Subsequently, it became known that that morning the 53-year-old victim decided to simply take out the trash.
The accused pleaded guilty to the crime.
By a court verdict, Galko was sentenced to 14 years in prison to be served in a strict regime colony.
