| Al-Qaeda forces launch attacks against UAE-backed forces in Abyan |

| [HODHODYEMENNEWS] Al-Qaeda elements have on Sunday night launched a large-scale military attack against the positions of the armed factions loyal to the UAE in Abyan ...a governorate of Yemen. The region was a base to the Aden-Abyan Islamic Army terrorist group until it dropped the name and joined al-Qaeda. Its capital is Zinjibar. In March 2011, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula declared the governate an Islamic Emirateafter seizing control of the region. The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. Yemeni government forces launched an effort to re-establish control of the region when President-for-Life Saleh was tossed and the carnage continues... province, southern Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of... This is the third attack carried out by al-Qaeda in Abyan province in less than a week. According to local and international media, al-Qaeda murderous Moslems took control of new sites in Omran Valley, east of Modiya district, after fierce battles between the two sides that lasted for hours. Al-Qaeda used drones in the attack, and the pro-UAE recruits suffered heavy losses in lives and equipment, according to media reports. Al-Qaeda continues its escalation against the armed elements of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in response to the Siham al-Sharq operation the latter launched against the terrorist organization in Abyan. |
