Afghan Carpet Exports Surge by 30%, Ministry Reports
2023-08-14
It gives the girls something to do, now that they have no school to look forward to, and a way to make money that doesn’t involve being sold in marriage or living as a boy.
[ToloNews] The Ministry of Industry and Commerce has revealed that the export of Afghan carpets has seen an upswing of 30% over the past four months when compared to the same period last year.

According to ministry data spanning from the solar months of Hamal to Saratan (March 21 to July 22), Afghan carpets worth more than $7 million have been exported to various countries, including The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Italia, and Uzbekistan.

"During the initial three months of the first quarter of [solar year] 1402, carpet exports reached $4,470,000," stated Abdul Salam Jawad, spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

Notably, some carpet exporters spoke about a notable surge in direct exports of Afghan carpets to European and American nations.

In the past year, our sales have increased, and a significant number of our customers are from abroad. We are now also facilitating our own transfers," revealed Mohammad Sabir, a carpet vendor.

Sayed Mohammad, another carpet vendor, emphasized the quality of Afghan carpets, expressing hope for support from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan to further boost production and sales in this sector.

"Our carpet is the best in the world. The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan should help us and our investors to have production and sales in this field," Mohammad said.

The Union of Carpet Producers and Exporters emphasized the positive impact of international exhibitions on promoting the Afghan handwoven carpet industry. Hosting such exhibitions has proved pivotal in driving exports upward.

"We recently witnessed a triumphant exhibition in the city of Astana, Kazakhstan. We remain optimistic that such exhibitions will continue to be organized, affording us the opportunity to showcase our products," said Noor Ahmad Noori, head of the Union of Carpet Producers and Exporters.

Ministry of Industry and Commerce statistics outline that Afghanistan's carpet exports reached approximately $22 million in value during the solar year 1401

(2022), with key markets including Pakistain, Turkey, the United States, Uzbekistan, and the United Arab Emirates.

#9  I will have to peruse Etsy for something suitable commemorative our 20 years of Afghan fiddling. Blood red or rusty metal color ought to do. Hopefully, I can find something suitably smelly.

#8  #5 During the Russian invasion of Afghanistan the women began putting out war carpets, with rather modern depictions of helicopters, AKs, etc. They were rather interesting. However, the traditional Afghan focus on rusts, reds, blacks and browns, and the use of stylized 'guls' have never really attracted serious buyers like the rugs from the Caucasus, Iran and Turkey have.

#7  Yes, yes, Herb. Oh, sorry — Harcourt Tholuse6841. We addressed the question of opium here yesterday. Do catch up.

Also, nobody talks about neocons anymore, because most of them have been claquing for Joe Biden for years. Where have you been that you missed that, buddy?

#6  No, the Taliban have shut down the opium fields.

Yessirre-bob they sure dud. Farmers are planting wheat instead. And boy, the neocons are furious. They're saying we need to re-invade to restore the opium supply. Yes, really.

You know the opiates that have utterly wrecked poor Americans? All of them came from Afghanistan. The flow could have been stopped at any time. Instead US soldiers guarded the fields.

#5  They may have been the best in the 70s when they were all the rage. But having a country continuously at war with warlords making everyone's life shit has a way of degrading the quality.

#3  "Our carpet is the best in the world." Dream on Babu. Afghan carpets are third rank. This surge indicates that Afghan families are selling their carpets because they need funds to survive.
