| [IsraelTimes] Around 100,000 people are attending the main anti-overhaul rally this evening in Tel Aviv, the Crowd Solutions firm estimates according to Channel 13 news. Compare to: Tens of thousands at Western Wall for final Slihot before Yom Kippur[Jpost] Over two-million people took part in Slihot services ...special prayers and recitations said for the High Holiday period during the two weeks leading up to Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, which is the holiest day of the Jewish religious calendar. It turns out there are quite a number of different traditions around exactly what is said and when, which I only just discovered, But given that we’ve been working on this for some 3500 years, I suppose I oughtn’t be surprised.... the Western Wall this year."This year saw a record number of 18 central Slihot events to prevent overcrowding and disperse the masses," said the Western Wall Heritage Foundation. "Over two million people arrived during the month of Elul and the Ten Days of Repentance for the traditional Slihot ceremonies at the Western Wall, with the theme 'And grant peace among us,' a blessed rise in numbers. These prayers unite the entire spectrum of the Jewish people in this emotional month, at the place that unifies us." |

| #2 Agreed, lord garth — there were eighteen opportunities, according to the article. But the anti-judicial overhaul protesters are also mostly frequent flyers. And if all those praying do all eighteen, that’s over 111,000 altogether, about as many praying as protesting. But it’s more likely that many to most will have gone only once, praying the rest if the time at their usual synagogue. |
