Zelenskyy, Trudeau Honor Actual 3rd Reich Nazi With Standing Ovation
2023-09-25
[ZERO] Yaroslav Hunka, 98, fought in a Third Reich military formation accused of war crimes.

On Friday, he was honored during a session of Canadian parliament in which Zelenskyy addressed the lawmakers to thank them for their support since Russia invaded Ukraine, saying that Canada has always been on "the bright side of history."

Hunka stood for standing ovation and saluted, according to Canadian television.

Herr Hunka extends thumbs up, stops short of Gruß.

#26  Canada was up there with Australia and Argentina in the number of nasties that ended up there after the war. Most came as fake refugees, but some were moved through the system by British Intelligence to use Canada (and Aus) to warehouse low-mid level war criminals and Nazi sympathizers with the hope of using them as witnesses should they catch bigger fish. As this man, most are now nearing or have past age 100 and are a rarity.
What probably happened was a sloppy wetting process because this Canadian government is incompetent and full of blunders.
It was not deliberate or orchestrated to signal Nazis that they have friends in Canada but the result of just being clownish fools at the top.
As someone pointed out already, these people weren't for the most part ideologically Nazi but people who saw the Nazis as liberators because they came to Ukraine as liberators and Ukraine just survived the Holodomor orchestrated by the Stalin regime. These collaborators numbered around 200K out of a population over 20M. Many of them later switched sides and became partisans fighting the Nazis once they realized how the Germans fooled them.
Stepan Bandera for example fought with the Nazis then fought against them and even ended up as a prisoner in Dachau.

#25  #12, #17, indeed pretty much every country in Europe sent troops to fight the Soviets. The wide held belief was: "With the Germans you lose your freedom, with the Soviets you lose your soul". Folks chose accordingly. If Canada was truly on the side of freedom and personal liberty, such a gaffe could be explainable (Reagan at Bitburg). But, since Canaduh already exposed themselves as tyrants who hate personal liberty, this bit is most disturbing.

#17  everyone seems to be ignoring the 25,000 Dutchmen who joined the Waffen-SS

Pretty much any country that Germany overran had people join, especially at the end of the war. Ukraine and the Baltics people joined as they hated the Soviets and other nationalities joined for the same or different reason.

#16  I don’t think Trudeau will last through the next election. He is collecting more baggage than Paris Hilton.

#15  But. But. But. How can Russia be the Nazis if Zelenskyy and Trudeau actually give honors and a standing ovation to a real 3rd Reich Hitler Nazi...

Forkbeard - maybe you could enlighten us.

#13  With any luck, someday the same sort of opprobrium will fall on US democrat party members.

#12  Ukraine is getting a lot of bad press, but everyone seems to be ignoring the 25,000 Dutchmen who joined the Waffen-SS. Granted, 10 times that number of Ukrainians joined one Nazi formation or another, but the Soviets hadn't tried genocide on the Netherlands.

#9  From a commenter on the same thread:

It's OK Canada, no need to apologize, after all the British royal family sympathized with the Nazis, and Carl Edward was a member of SA, and a personal friend of A. Hitler, his son died on Eastern front.

#8  According to Kots:

And then there are more statements from the Poles: “Poland will not tolerate the bleaching of the Nazis and demands to apologize for inviting the Ukrainian Nazi to the House of Commons,” said Polish Ambassador in Ottawa Witold Dzelsky.

#5 Is it so surprising the the Uke's are fascinated with Nazi's? Soviet Russia tried to exterminate them via starvation in the'30s. Then in the '40s the Nazis came to town and started kicking Soviet butt. Damn right the Uke's signed up. Not so much because they were pro-Nazi as they were, and are, virulently anti-Russian. It's Ukes vs Russians; the politics are window dressing.

Mercutio,

More than a few reputable historians have made the point that if Der Fuhrer hadn't been so convinced the Ukranians were untermenschen and instead recruited them in greater numbers, the USSR might not have survived.

#3  Everyone was rather quiet when the French Foreign Legionaries were dying in Indochina or at Chipyong-ni in Korea during the 50s about who was actually serving in the ranks. Just saying.
