The great betrayal tearing the Democrats to shreds: Prof. Alan Dershowitz says vile Leftist anti-Israeli hate will turn millions of American Jews from Blue to Red - and he's one
2023-11-05
Maybe this time he really will walk away from the Democratic Party. But he has said similar things before, and in the end voted Democrat anyway.
[MAIL] The Democratic Party now faces a choice.

The Hamas atrocities of October 7th have forever fractured any political alliance between centrist and liberal Jews and woke, anti-Israel progressives.

It's either them or us.

The coalition is at civil war.

Following the terrorist massacre of Israeli civilians and even before the military response, young woke progressives turned stridently against the Jewish State.

It was a knee-jerk reaction stimulated not by what Israel did — because it had done nothing to justify Hamas' brutality — but what Israel is: the nation state of the Jewish people.

In New York City, speakers at a rally endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America (a group to which several members of Congress belong) celebrated the attacks.

Progressive students at many American universities issued statements, held banners, and participated in marches not in favor of a two-state solution which would establish a Palestinian state alongside Israel, but against the existence of Israel itself.

The dominant slogan at these events was 'Palestine will be free from the river to the sea.'

#6  /\ A profoundly accurate assessment EH, at least in my view.

#5  I see transgender as a new form of leftist obedience training. The issue is not really important, what is
important is that the Party decides whether 2+2=3,5 or even 4.

As for the overlap, I don't see any fundamental difference between Taliban rule, North Korea and the Khmer Rouge.

A person who started as a Khmer Rouge communist would have no inherent problem with becoming supporter of totalitarian Islam, an ideology that commands tremendous respect and accommodation in Western bien pensant elite circles.

#4  elmerert

some of the policies are the same but most are not

- transgender issues
- same sex marriage
- consensual sex before marriage
- artistic expression

the anti antisemitism is in some ways simply a political messaging tactic to disguise the difference between the progs and the Islamofacists

it worked in Iran where the left sided with Khomeini against the shah and the left was then eliminated in the next 6 months

#3  The alliance between the progressive left and contemporary totalitarian Islam is quite natural.

The political platforms of both movements overlap in that they advocate primitivization, genocide and slavery.

The labels differ, the policies not so much.

#1  I think Dems got the message - otherwise I can't explain the absence of knife in Israel's back (the alternative: Biden's admin actually understands the situation is too far fetched.).
