will become Pakistain’s next president no matter whether Pakistain Moslem League-Nawaz (PML-N) or Pakistain Pakistain Peoples Party (PPP) secures a majority in parliament following general elections scheduled for February next year, claimed a JUI-F spokesperson on Sunday.

Incumbent President Arif Alvi's five-year term ended on September 8 this year. However,

he is currently continuing as the country's head of state under Article 44 of the Constitution which allows the president to continue holding the office in the absence of the provincial and national assemblies — which were dissolved in January and August earlier this year, respectively.

The President of Pakistain is elected in a special session of the parliament, senate and all four provincial assemblies in accordance with Article 41 (3) of the constitution.

Alvi is the fourth head of state to complete his full term. The previous three presidents who completed their five-year terms were the fifth president Fazal Ilahi Chaudhry (1973 to 1978), the 11th president Asif Ali Ten Percent Zardari

(2008 to 2013), and the 12th president Mamnoon Hussain (2013 to 2018).

In an interview with a local TV channel, JUI-F leader Hafiz Hamdullah said if Fazl can be made the head of the Pakistain Democratic Movement (PDM), a multiparty alliance, then he can also be made the country's president, Geo News reported.

#1  As a young man the Maulana held the first important gathering of Islamist radicals following the Soviet expulsion from Afghanistan. He was known as a supporter of the Taliban movement in Afghanistan. A leader of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam movement, Rehman was elected as the member of the National Assembly in 1988 Pakistani general elections for the first time, and from that time to present maintained a close relationship with the Afghan Taliban. Wiki: Rehman led several anti-American protests and pro-Taliban rallies in the major cities of Pakistan following the war in Afghanistan in 2001. He criticizsed President of United States George W. Bush, and threatened to launch jihad against the United States if the bombings continued. ... In October 2001, PM Musharraf placed Fazal under house arrest for inciting citizens of Pakistan against the armed forces of Pakistan and for trying to overthrow the government of Pakistan. Later in March 2002, Fazal was set free and the cases against him were withdrawn. He has remained politically active since.
