[Regnum] Nine soldiers were killed in the crash of a Mi-17 helicopter belonging to the Colombian air assault division in the state of Bolivar. The Colombian army announced this on April 29 on the social network X.“Today, with deep pain, we mourn the death of the crew of the Mi-17 EJC3395 and its passengers in a plane crash that occurred in the municipality of Arenal, in the south of Bolivar. A group of rescuers went to the scene of the incident,” the message clarifies.
On board the helicopter were three officers and six soldiers; they participated in supplying the airborne assault division of troops conducting an operation against the Gulf Clan drug cartel. The cartel is the largest in Colombia and is actively involved in the internal armed conflict that has been going on in the country for many years.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro expressed condolences over the death of the military personnel.
