Mary Burke: I wasn't technically 'fired' from my family's company
2014-10-31
[HOTAIR]
Multiple former executives at Trek Bicycle now say Burke was forced out of her position by her own family as a consequence of her terrible management, and a fellow member of a Democratic administration referred to her leadership as "a disaster" in a contemporaneous assessment. And now she wants to be governor. Even as GOP-aligned pollsters are privately warning that Marquette's Walker +7 projection is more bullish than their internal findings, this can't be the front page coverage Team Burke was hoping to see five days out from the election.

#9  She left to spend more time with her family - at home rather than at work.

I hope she kept her stapler.

#8  "And I said, I don't care if they lay me off either, because I told, I told Bill that if they move my desk one more time, then, then I'm, I'm quitting, I'm going to quit. And, and I told Don too, because they've moved my desk four times already this year, and I used to be over by the window, and I could see the squirrels, and they were married, but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn't bind up as much, and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and it's not okay because if they take my stapler then I'll set the building on fire..."

#7  ...or as Bobcat used to say "... I lost my job. Well I didn't really lose it, it's just that when I went back someone else was doing it".

#6  Having had court side seats at several businesses organized under the dysfunctional family business model, the father and the brother probably heard the adage "shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in 2 generations"- founding father starts with nothing, works his/ her/ their arses off to build a successful business that then gets handed down to the idiot son/ daughter who runs it into the ground and ends up where the founder started once they find actual hard work and talent are involved. Shuffle her off to government where here talent is more suited.

The mainstream media, playing frantic catch-up on a story they evidently didn’t bother to investigate for months — even as Burke routinely cited her Trek experience as a raison d’etre of her campaign — is finally asking questions.

That might prove to be a bigger story than Burke's firing.

#3  Sometimes you hire relatives just to keep tabs on them so they don't do something stupid and hurt themselves or others.

When that doesn't work, you ship them to Europe.

When that doesn't work, you get them an appointment job in government (perhaps as a state Secretary of Commerce).

When that doesn't work, you get him/her elected to the governance of the local Country Club. Least damage to others possible (except for maybe the caddies and greens).

Some relatives can't help themselves and still try to create havoc for others by running for School Boards or possibly the governorship of some Midwestern state.

#1  When your brother and father "eliminate your job" due to poor performance? You're fired
