| [Dhaka Tribune] On September 18, Tangail 3 MP Rana appeared before the Tangail additional district and sessions judge ending his runaway run for 22 months. Ruling Awami League MP Amanur Rahman Khan Rana has been denied bail by a Tangail court in freedom fighter Faruk Ahmed murder case. Judge Abul Mansoor Mia of Tangail additional district and sessions judge court 1 passed the order on Monday. On Sunday, Amanur’s lawyers filed the bail petition mentioning that their client had received a letter to attend the current parliamentary session and for this he needs bail, said Ashok Kumar Singh, OC of Tangail Detective Branch of Police. After hearing the bail petition, the court rejected his bail plea and sent the politician to jail, the police official said. On September 18, Tangail 3 MP Rana appeared before the Tangail additional district and sessions judge ending his runaway run for 22 months. Then the court of First Additional District Sessions Judge Abul Monsur Mia sent him to jail after rejecting his bail plea. Earlier, the court issued arrest warrants for 10 people, including MP Rana and three of his brothers, for the murder of local Awami League leader and freedom fighter Faruk. It also ordered confiscation of their properties. Faruk was found murdered in front of his house in the town’s College Para area on January 18, 2013. Later, his wife Nahar Ahmed filed a murder case with local police. In August 2014, police tossed in the slammer Book 'im, Mahmoud! two cohorts of MP Rana who gave confessional statement before a court. Rana is the only accused who has turned himself in to face charges of murder. The others are on the run. Police pressed charges against 14 men in court on February 3. On April 6, a court accepted charges against 10 men and issued warrants for their arrests. |
