House Democrat says he will refuse to shake Trump's hand at joint session
2017-03-01
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] President Trump will not receive a handshake from at least one senior House Democrat, the politician announced hours before Trump's first speech before a joint session of Congress.

"The president needs to work with all people and therefore I will listen to what he has to say today, but I will not greet him and shake his hand," New York Rep. Eliot Engel, the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said during a brief speech on the House floor.

Engel, like several other politicians, has a long history of taking a seat on the aisle during State of the Union addresses; the positioning ensures that they are seen on television greeting the president as he enters and exits the joint session. But Engel intends the snub as a a rebuke of Trump's attacks on the media, lack of support for investigating the Russia-linked cyberattacks against the Democratic party during the 2016 elections, and other policy disagreements, he said.

#13  When nobody was paying attention to the Vietnamese Buddhist monks they found a way. Perhaps the Dems might give that a try.

They'll get attention at the very least.

#12  Eliot Engel sounds like a grand-stander. Why should Trump or anyone else care.

#9  Apparently the Dems weren't even listening because it looked like they had to be reminded to clap about stuff they normally approve of.

#8  Crazy Fool is exactly right. Where were these people's parents when they were 3 or 4 or so? That's about when my mother drummed manners into me in no uncertain terms. (Thanks, Mom!)

#5  He had a really good speech. Offered to work with the demoncrats, but then smacked them for being twits.

#4  DJT did an absolutely splendid job. Not certain how he could have done better. The dems appeared churlish and inconsequential.

Thank you Trump team. Mission accomplished.

#3  Yeah... I'm sure Trump is all broken up about it.

#2  I watched the SoU this evening. One of the best presidential addresses I've ever seen, if not the best. I didn't notice this bozeau.
