Puntland Presidential Guards stage strike over Salary
BOSSASO, Somalia -- Presidential Security Unit (PSU) soldiers staged a strike at Bossaso palace over delayed pays as Puntland government ponders the installation of new note printing plant, Garowe Online reports.

The mutineers who cordoned off the entrances to Bossaso palace where President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali was holding a meeting are said to have not been paid for seven months. Puntland Army Commander-in-Chief Gen. Saed Mohamed Hirsi (Saed Dhere) intervened in the matter, telling the striking soldiers to wait for two-month salary.

Meanwhile, a statement released to the media by Puntland Finance Ministry revealed that civil servants and security forces will be paid on 25th of every month.

Though Government noted that the payment will become effective in January 2015, it has not mentioned that it would pay off long overdue salaries at a later date.

Insiders tell GO that a group of businessmen including first deputy speaker of Parliament Abdihamid Sheikh Abdisalan planned to set up note printing plant-a move that economists say could plunge the state into severe meltdown.

In March 2014, Puntland Defence Forces in 54th Somali army base staged similar mutiny, setting tires on fire and chanting for their military rights.

In early July, a 500-bed Danish-funded pirate complex in the state capital of Garowe came on the verge of closure but Puntland Custodian Corps Chief Gen. Ali Nur later denied reported substandard conditions in the prison facility in an emailed statement.

Hardline Hassi claims US coming to the rescue
[Libya Herald] The head of the "government" appointed by the rump General National Congress and supported by Libya Dawn
...aka Fajr Libya, the Islamist operation launched to counter that of General Khalifa Haftar (Operation Dignity). It is made up of the Libya Shield militia (Misrata and Moslem Brotherhood), Libya Revolutionaries Operations Room (Moslem Brotherhood), and Tripoli Brigade (close to Abdul Hakim Belhaj, head of Al-Watan party). Financing and moral support come from Turkey and Qatar...
, Omar Al-Hassi, has claimed that the US Justice Department and his administration are collaborating on humanitarian reconstruction in Libya. As a result, he said, the US would be sending food, medical supplies and electricity generator ships to Libya as of next Monday.

Revealing this startling news at a presser this evening in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, Hassi said that revolutionaries would secure Libyan ports and airports as of Wednesday ahead of the anticipated deliveries. He expressed the fear, however, that the supplies might be bombed by aircraft controlled by Khalifa Hafter.

Expressing his thanks to the Americans, he said while his "government" was working hard to establish security for everyone in Libya, it needed help from neighbouring states and friendly countries.

The US supplies, he claimed, were result on an internationally-backed initiative which was intended to help all Libyans, regardless of where they were. They would delivered to Tripoli, Misrata, Zawiya, as well as towns in the Jebel Nafusa and south and central Libya (but apparently not eastern Libya) and that municipal councils, civil society organizations, elders and young people, men and women would be needed to help in the distribution.

Maiduguri Residents Told to Stay and Fight, as Curfew Lifted
[AnNahar] A city-wide curfew was lifted Monday in Maiduguri, northeast Nigeria

attack that prompted the state governor to urge residents to stay and fight any future assaults.

Arabia
Yemen Militia Block Fresh Protest Efforts
[AnNahar] Yemen's powerful Shiite militia blocked access to Sanaa University on Monday as opponents to their takeover of the capital called for more demonstrations against their tightening grip on Sanaa.

The militiamen, known as Huthis, set up barriers along roads leading to Change Square just outside the university, a hotbed of opposition, witnesses and activists said.

Opponents to the Huthis have urged more demonstrations on Monday against their occupation of the capital, which has plunged Yemen into a deepening crisis.

Western-backed President Abdrabuh Mansur Hadi, a key U.S. ally in the fight against al-Qaeda, tendered his resignation last week after the Huthis kidnapped his chief of staff and seized key buildings.

Yemen's parliament on Sunday again postponed a session to consider Hadi's resignation, extending a dangerous power vacuum.

The militia, who descended from their base in Yemen's rugged north to overrun the capital in September, had gun sex on Sunday to disperse a protest at Change Square.

The Huthis detained several activists and two news hounds from local media at the protest, but the journalists were released after signing pledges not to cover demonstrations, according to an activist, Mohammed al-Saadi.

Four political parties negotiating with the Huthis to bring the country out of crisis meanwhile announced late Sunday they were ending contact with the militia.

Abdullah Noaman, head of the Nasserist Unionist People's party, accused the Huthis of "arrogance" in announcing the end of talks.

The U.N. Security Council was to hold closed-door talks on Yemen later Monday, diplomats said.

Hadi tendered his resignation on Thursday along with Prime Minister Khalid Bahah, saying he could not stay in office as the country was in "total deadlock".

The crisis had escalated on January 17 when the Huthis seized Hadi's chief of staff, Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, in an apparent bid to extract changes to a draft constitution.

Pitched battles then erupted in the capital, with the Huthis seizing the presidential palace and firing on Hadi's residence in what authorities said was a coup attempt.

The unrest has raised fears of strategically important Yemen, which lies next to oil-rich Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and along key shipping routes, collapsing into a failed state.

Yemeni authorities have long allowed the United States to carry out drone attacks against al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula
...the latest incarnation of various Qaeda and Qaeda-allied groups, including the now-defunct Aden-Abyan Islamic Army that boomed the USS Cole in 2000...
(AQAP), considered by Washington as the jihadist network's most dangerous branch.

U.S. President Barack Obama
I bowled a 129. It’s like — it was like Special Olympics, or something...
on Sunday vowed to keep pursuing AQAP despite the crisis, saying "we will continue to maintain the pressure that is required to keep the American people safe".

Senior Iranian official: We support Houthis in Yemen
[Ynet] Ali Shirazi, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei representative in the elite Quds Force, said on Monday that Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
rebel's activities in Yemen are similar to Hezbollah's in Leb.

In an interview with the newspaper run by Iran's armed forces, Shirazi emphasized that Iran directly supports the Houthis, as it does Leb.

Shirazi repeated threats recently lobbed at Israel following an Arclight airstrike in southern Syria, saying "the Zionists must wait for a response at any time and place."

US Embassy in Yemen to close to the public
[Ynet] The United States is closing its embassy in Yemen to the public until further notice, the embassy said in a statement on Monday amid political turmoil after that nation's government resigned last week under pressure from the Houthi

Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. rebel movement.

"The US Embassy will be closed to the public until further notice out of an abundance of caution and care for our employees and others who may be visiting the Embassy. We are continuously analyzing the security conditions and will resume consular operations as soon as our analysis indicates we are able to do so safely," the statement said.
Fortunately, the embassy recently reduced its skeleton staff even further, so it's not many people doing whatever it is that embassy staff do when they're not doing what they normally do.

China-Japan-Koreas
N.Korea Sulks Over Talks Conditions
North Korea on Sunday vowed to deliver "stern punishment" if South Korea continues to "challenge" the North's "patriotic appeal" for conditional dialogue.
Check the pic at the link, in which Pudgy is wider than two women pilots each wearing flight suits...
The outburst was triggered by a fresh batch of propaganda leaflets sent across the border by activists here and Seoul’s refusal to halt joint exercises with the U.S., both of which the North sees as a rebuff of proposals for talks.

The statement by North's powerful National Defense Commission threatened to "deliver ruthless punishment" against the country's enemies and warned South Korea must not "criticize" Pyongyang's proposals as "desperate measures" to escape from international isolation.
No "sea of fire"? Did they bury the old KCNA guy with Kimmie when he died?
The statement pours cold water on hopes here of imminent talks between the two Koreas on fresh reunions during the Lunar New Year holidays of families separated by the 1950-53 Korean War.

The Grand Turk
Erdogan and the Turks not happy about the Kurds winning in Kobane
“There is no one there but they are bombing. Today, we see that they are dancing,” he said in reference to celebrations in Turkey’s Kurdish-dominated cities and in western metropoles. “What happened? DEAŞ [the Arabic acronym for ISIL] is out. That is OK but who will repair the places you have bombed?” he asked.

The world overreacted on the Kobane issue, he said, saying it had received more attention than Somalia, where he visited days ago.

Kurdish groups have long accused Erdoğan and the Turkish government of tacitly or openly supporting ISIL due to its distaste for the more leftist and secular forces fighting to defend the town.

The truth with these people is always subordinate to the need to protect the Champ. The sordid details and corrupt practices are hidden beneath the veneer and "prestige" of an office now so tarnished with excesses that both at h9ome and abroad, people smirk and laugh at the clownish attempts to explain obvious stupidities. But this will not got away Ben, this has angered those to whom honor and duty are actually meaningful words, not slogans for the uber-hit synchophants of the One.

US assures support to arrest, kill Fazlullah, Senate committee told
[DAWN] Defence officials said Monday that the United States has assured Pakistain that Tehrik-e-Taliban (TTP) chief Mullah Fazlullah
...son-in-law of holy man Sufi Mohammad. Known as Mullah FM, Fazlullah had the habit of grabbing his FM mike when the mood struck him and bellowing forth sermons. Sufi suckered the Pak govt into imposing Shariah on the Swat Valley and then stepped aside whilst Fazlullah and his Talibs imposed a reign of terror on the populace like they hadn't seen before, at least not for a thousand years or so. For some reason the Pak intel services were never able to locate his transmitter, much less bomb it. After ruling the place like a conquered province for a year or so, Fazlullah's Talibs began gobbling up more territory as they pushed toward Islamabad, at which point as a matter of self-preservation the Mighty Pak Army threw them out and chased them into Afghanistan...
would either be locked away
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
or killed in Afghanistan, adding that in case of an arrest he would be subsequently handed over to Pakistain.

Briefing a Senate Defence Committee in Islamabad, defence officials said that during his long visit to the US, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Raheel Sharif had also presented vital evidence of Indian involvement in subversive activities in Pakistain by using Afghan soil to top US intelligence and defence officials.

Defence officials said US would also give Pakistain 1 billion USD this year under the Coalition Support Fund (CSF).

Mortar shells found in Sadiq Garh Palace defused
[DAWN] BAHAWALPUR: The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) defused the five live mortar shells recovered from a deserted portion of the Sadiq Garh Palace, once the abode of late Nawab of Bahwalpur, Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi-V, at Dera Nawab Sahib, about 40kms from here.

The century-old palace's historic building, which now stood split up in various portions after its division among the descendents of the late Nawab, faced decay due to the apathy of its present owners.

Dawn has learnt that on a tip-off, Dera Nawab police rushed to the scene and found a sack packed with five mortar shells, which were presumed to be live.

This created panic among the building residents.

The police immediately called BDS personnel to the scene who, according to the district police Public Relations Officer Rehan Gilani, defused the shells.

The police sources said it appeared that the shells belonged to the armament depot of the defunct army of the late Nawab that remained buried under the heaps of trees' leaves and garbage on the palace premises.

The late Nawab's army had been active till the merger of Bahawalpur State with the then Pakistain's One-Unit before 1955.

Iraq 'sleeper cells' fight Islamic State group
[Ynet] Hakim al-Zamili, the head of Iraqi parliament's security and defense committee, confirms former police and soldiers are providing intel on locations of myrmidon group.

"Sleeper cells" made up of former Iraqi coppers and soldiers are tipping off authorities to Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group positions in the northern city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, a prominent politician has told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named.

The comments by Hakim al-Zamili, the head of parliament's security and defense committee, are the first high-level confirmation of the groups' existence after weeks of rumors.

Their work remains incredibly dangerous as the Islamic State group has shut down mobile phone networks and regularly kills suspected government collaborators. However,
if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning...
their intelligence could prove invaluable as the US-led coalition steps up Arclight airstrikes around Mosul, Iraq's second-largest city, to disrupt Islamic State group supply lines ahead of an expected operation later this year to take back the city from bad boys

"Those patriotic groups, some operate from inside the city of Mosul and others from the areas surrounding it, are now giving us information about the military preparations being made by Islamic State group in order to face any attack by government forces to retake the city," al-Zamili told the AP.

The Islamic State group captured Mosul in August during its blitz across northern Iraq. The turbans now hold about a third of both Iraq and neighboring Syria in its self-declared caliphate.

Many soldiers and coppers dropped their weapons and fled during the myrmidons' initial offensive. Now, however, some have begun spying on behalf of the Iraqi government, al-Zamili said. Resentment among Mosul residents over all has grown as prices of most food staples have more than doubled, kerosene is in short supply and turbans have banned alcohol and cigarettes.

In late November, the Islamic State group blocked all mobile phone networks in Mosul, accusing informants in the city of tipping off coalition and Iraqi forces to their whereabouts. The move caused chaos across Mosul.

Typically, informants leave Mosul and head to higher altitudes to get a network signal so they can make calls, al-Zamili said. Their information then gets passed to Iraqi security commanders in charge of Arclight airstrikes and military operation in Nineveh province, the politician said. So far, the information has not been shared with U.S.-led forces, he said.

"We receive a lot of useful information from Mosulis who are becoming fed-up with the turbans and this is the reason why the IS group blocked all mobile phone networks in the city," he said.

In recent days, coalition Arclight airstrikes pounded at least two dozen locations around Mosul, destroying dozens of vehicles, buildings, fighting positions and bully boy units. The Arclight airstrikes, said one senior military official, are the start of a new phase, and military leaders are watching to see how the turbans respond. The official was not authorized to discuss the operations publicly so spoke on condition of anonymity.

Any offensive to retake Mosul likely remains months away. However,
if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning...
al-Zamili said the intelligence helps. To encourage others, he said Iraq's parliament is considering laws to reinstate soldiers and coppers who served under former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein but have taken the "honorable stance" in cooperating with Iraqi authorities battling the Islamic State group.

[Ynet] Suspects appear in court for remand hearing over attack on 21-year-old music student last week; Tommy Hassoun was reportedly attacked for speaking Arabic.

The Jerusalem police tossed in the slammer
Please don't kill me!
six men on Monday on suspicion on involvement in the brutal attack on 21-year-old Druze student Tommy Hassoun last week. The suspects were brought Jerusalem Magistrate's Court for a hearing on the extension of their remand.

Tommy Hassoun was brutally attacked by a group of Jewish men in Jerusalem on Thursday ‐ reportedly after they heard him speaking Arabic.
Every group has its vicious idiots. The question is whether the groups celebrates them or punishes them for acting on their impulses.
What Tommy Hassoun's assailants did not know was that they were attacking a young man who had completed his IDF service three months earlier and had recently moved to Jerusalem to study music.

The men, who were wearing skullcaps, hit the 21-year-old Druze student and broke a glass bottle on him. Hassoun was hospitalized suffering from bruises to his face and back of his head.

Hassoun, a musician who grew up in the Druze town of Daliyat al-Karmel near Haifa, had moved to Jerusalem to study at a music academy. For his military service, Hasson had served in a combat unit and later at the President's Residence.

On Sunday, Hassoun posted a message on his Facebook preaching peace and tolerance ‐ despite his ordeal.

"Many people who have never met me asked forgiveness," wrote Hassoun. "I am in a lot of pain, but my head is held high."

President Reuven Rivlin, who knew Hassoun from his IDF service, called the young man's father to express support for the family.

"On a personal level I believed up until now that this is one nation ‐ I never saw a difference between a Jew and a Druze," said Hassoun's father. "I believed and I will continue to believe in the future that this is the land of the Jewish nation ‐ it has a right to live here."
And every group has wise ones. Again, the difference is whether they are punished or celebrated.
Tommy's brother, Julian, said: "A month ago two Druze coppers were murdered during terror attacks and now a Druze gets hit by Jews."

Top Official From Obama Campaign Team In Israel To Help Defeat Netanyahu
Haaretz reporter Roi Arad revealed in an article in the Hebrew edition today that the foreign funded organization, '€œOne Voice'€, is bankrolling the V-2015 campaign to defeat Binyamin Netanyahu’s national camp in the March 2015 Knesset Elections.
See the OneVoice "Partners" page. Nice to see that the US-DoS and Google have something in common.
Since President Obama cannot as a matter of principle meet with Prime Minister Netanyahu at the White House so close to Bibi's election, he is generously sending his people to meet Bibi in Israel.

Olde Tyme Religion
IS 'Not a State, Not Justified by Islam', Says Top Egyptian Cleric
[AnNahar] The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) group, which has sown a trail of terror across Syria and Iraq, is neither a state nor justified by Islam, Egypt's top Moslem holy man said Monday.

"We have already asserted that we should never use the term Islamic State for ISIS," Egypt's Grand Mufti Sheikh Shawky Allam said at a public forum in Singapore.

"It is not a state in the first place, neither is it justified by any Islamic justification," he told the packed gathering, which was organized by the city-state's Islamic Religious Council.

"The establishment of any Islamic state will need to go to its roots, its basis and foundations," he said through an interpreter when asked if the formation of the group, also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), was in line with Islamic law.

Since the group emerged in its current form in 2013, its forces of Evil have captured large swathes of territory in both Syria and Iraq.

It has declared an Islamic "caliphate" in territory under its control, and gained a reputation for brutality, including torture and beheading of its captives.

In its latest act of brutality, the group said Sunday it had executed one of two Japanese hostages it has been holding, apparently by beheading him.

Sheikh Allam said the group was misrepresenting Islam.

"The main intention of Allah is certainly not the destruction, killing or war," he said.

"What we seek is stability. If these people are there to only cause destruction, and you say you do it in the name of Islam, certainly this is not what Islam is about."

Sheikh Allam also said the publication of Prophet Mohammed cartoons by the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo
...A lefty French satirical magazine, home of what may well be the majority if the active testicles left in Europe...
"affected our emotions deeply" but stressed that "we have to deal with this issue in a rational manner".

Two Islamist gunnies this month attacked the Gay Paree office of the magazine, leaving 12 people dead, including some of Charlie Hebdo's top cartoonists. Five more people were killed in related attacks by a separate gunman.

"When someone has committed a crime in any country, there are ways to ensure this matter is raised through proper channels," the holy man said.

"Anything we do must be just -- that is the basis of Islam."

#1  Clerics and Imams don't want to have to get a real job. Got to keep the Mosque in business somehow. So during times like these you have to skip over the versus that promote jihad.

Malaysia Air site hacked by group claiming support for IS
[Ynet] Malaysia Airlines officials were struggling Monday to restore the embattled carrier's website after it was hacked by a group proclaiming support for the Islamic State

group.

The airline's site was changed, at first with a message saying "404 - Plane Not Found" and that it was "Hacked by Cyber Caliphate," with

a photo of one of the airline's Airbus A380 superjumbo jets. The browser tab for the website said "ISIS will prevail."

Malaysian Airlines is trying to recover from twin disasters last year, including the disappearance of Flight 370, which authorities believed crashed 1,800 kilometers (1,100 miles) off Australia's west coast, and the downing of Flight 17 over Ukraine.
