-Lurid Crime Tales-
Lois Lerner Fears For Her Life, Asks Federal Court To Seal Her Upcoming Deposition Testimony
[TAXPROF.TYPEPAD] Former IRS
...the Internal Revenue Service; that office of the United States government that collects taxes and persecutes the regime's political enemies...
senior executive Lois G. Lerner told a federal court this week that she faces the possibility of death threats if her role in the tax agency’s tea party-targeting becomes public, and asked a judge to forever seal her upcoming deposition in a class-action lawsuit brought by hundreds of groups that were targeted.

Mr. Lerner and Holly Paz, another figure from the IRS tea party targeting, told the judge they’ve already faced "harassment and death threats" before, and said they fear another media firestorm if their version of events from the tea party targeting were to become public.

The two women said they are willing to testify, but said they could be putting "their lives in serious jeopardy."

"Mss. Lerner and Paz have demonstrated that the public dissemination of their deposition testimony would expose them and their families to harassment and a credible risk of violence and physical harm," they said in documents submitted by their lawyer to Judge Michael R. Barrett. ...

The class action lawsuit involves 428 groups who were snared by the IRS targeting procedures. That case, which is being heard in a federal court in Ohio, is in the discovery phase, and Ms. Lerner and Ms. Paz are supposed to give testimony. ...

Meanwhile,
...back at the shouting match, Bart was wondering if fisticuffs would be appropriate at this point...
in Washington, D.C., two cases brought by tea party groups are proceeding. A judge on Wednesday granted limited discovery in those cases, ordering the IRS to detail its past and current approval processes for tax-exempt organizations. Judge Reggie B. Walton also said the groups could depose Tamera L. Ripperda, a former IRS employee who ran the Cincinnati office that processed the applications. The groups also can depose the unnamed IRS employee who currently holds that same post.

Fresno State Professor Who Said ‘Trump Must Hang’ Apologizes Profusely, Flees Fresno
For some, learning is a slow, painful process.
[DAILYCALLER] The history professor at Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, State University, Fresno who appeared to advocate for the death of President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
on Twitter has apologized profusely and taken a temporary leave of absence in some holy man's guesthouse an undisclosed location because he now fears for his personal safety.

The professor, Lars Maischak, composed the tweets around the end of February. The tweets called for Trump to "hang" in order to "save American democracy." "The sooner and the higher, the better." The only "cure" for racist people is a bullet to their head, the tweets also said. Maischak used hashtags including "#TheResistance" and "#DeathToFascism."

Maischak says he now deeply regrets composing and publishing the tweets.

"I ask forgiveness of those who felt threatened or offended by them," Maischak wrote in a statement obtained by the Los Angeles Times. "It was never my intent to harm anyone, nor to encourage others to harm anyone."

"I never expected them to be read by anyone but a close circle of acquaintances who would know to place them in their context," Maischak also said in the Wednesday statement.

He did not intend for the now-deleted Twitter account to be viewed as an "invitation, or endorsement of, violence," he said.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Al Sharpton Slams Donald Trump for Not Releasing His Tax Returns
As protesters readied for mass "Tax Day" demonstrations on Saturday, Rev. Al Sharpton slammed President Donald Trump for refusing to divulge his personal financial information, which has broken a White House tradition dating back to the late President Richard Nixon.
Wow. There's a long-standing "tradition" for you.
Speaking at his weekly rally at the Harlem headquarters of his National Action Network, Sharpton noted that thousands would take to the streets in a few hours to demand the president at long last disclose his full fiscal history and provide an account of his global business dealings. During the campaign season, Trump claimed he could not release his returns because he was under audit, which the Internal Revenue Service and other observers deemed a spurious excuse.
I don't recall the IRS saying it was spurious. I recall them saying that he could if he wanted.
The then-candidate promised to disclose his tax details once the review was over--a promise he rescinded upon winning the presidency.
I had no idea his audit as over. Good for Donald the election is over. And the voters voted for him. Despite his not taking part in the long-standing tradition of not publishing his tax returns. Which should give everyone who decries what happened reason to pause. But it doesn't occur to them that that is what it means to be elected.
"They are raising the question of the president never having released his taxes. Why is that important?" Sharpton said. "Well, not only is it a tradition, but it is the only way you will know some of his business entanglements is to see the taxes and the income and the liabilities he owes to whom and for what."
It seems, however, that at least half of the people who voted apparently care less about this than they do about the US going down the toilet.
Sharpton, like other liberal critics, highlighted the high-profile ties of numerous disgraced Trump associates--including former campaign manager Paul Manafort, campaign advisor Carter Page and former national security advisor Gen. Michael Flynn--to Russian strongman Vladimir Putin, and further underscored reports that the commander-in-chief’s eponymous company has had dealings with Eurasian oligarchs. The civil rights leader insinuated the president has refused to release his returns because he has something to hide.

He further asserted that the U.S. missile attack on an airfield belonging to Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, a Russian ally, earlier this month was little more than theater.

"They said they standing up to the Russians," Sharpton said. "We need to know his financial dealings."

The activist acknowledged the 2014 New York Times report that uncovered some $4.5 million in state and federal tax liens against him and entities he owned. Those reports spawned countless spinoff articles and memes shared on social media in conservative circles.

"You got trawlers that write in all over Facebook and stuff about taxes I done paid," Sharpton complained. "They more interested in taxes I paid than they interested in the president and don’t know what taxes he did, didn’t do and where it come from. Because they hyped up the right wing into blindly defending him."

On the eve of Easter, Sharpton also compared his journey from political pariah to a nationally televised pundit and advisor to Mayor Bill de Blasio, Gov. Andrew Cuomo and former President Barack Obama with the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
So the way you go from pariah to pundit is to be part of the liberal media?
"They done buried my career 30 times. But God called me and it don’t matter. Every day I walk into NBC, every day I walked into Obama’s White House, you thought I was waving at cameras--I was showing the nails in my hand," he said. "I am he that you buried and God brought me back!"
You think you're pretty important, don't you? Does God speak to you directly then?

Elizabeth Warren says Mitch McConnell refuses to speak to her
Oh dear -- the cut direct. Has she considered joining a monastery?
[WashingtonExaminer] Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., says she takes every opportunity to say hello to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., but he has refused to speak with her since her notorious February battle with Republicans over the nomination of Jeff Sessions to be attorney general.

"The progressive senator spoke about her experience with McConnell in an interview with the Boston Globe, while promoting her upcoming book "This Fight Is Our Fight." The book reportedly ends right before Republicans voted to silence her during the debate over Sessions nomination. A move that was backed by McConnell.

The action gained nationwide attention, resulting in an outpouring of support for Warren. According to Warren, hard feelings led McConnell to stop speaking with her."

'I've spoken to him, but he has not spoken to me," Warren said. "I say hello to Mitch every chance I get, and he turns his head."

Trump Hits Back at Tax Protests, Asks 'Who Paid' for Rallies
[An Nahar] U.S. President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
on Sunday hit back at nationwide protests calling for him to release his tax returns, questioning "who paid for" the "small" rallies.

"Someone should look into who paid for the small organized rallies yesterday. The election is over!" the president tweeted Sunday morning.

That message came about an hour after an earlier tweet when he appeared to suggest the matter was a non-issue.

Trump has previously said Americans don't care about his returns.

"I did what was almost an impossible thing to do for a Republican-easily won the Electoral College! Now Tax Returns are brought up again?" Trump tweeted.

His messages came after thousands of protesters gathered Saturday in cities across America to pressure Trump to release his tax returns, a move of transparency he has repeatedly rejected.

The demonstrations were timed to coincide with the traditional April 15 deadline for annual tax filings, a key date on the calendar for U.S. households, and resulted in dozens of arrests.

For decades, U.S. presidents and presidential candidates have released their returns voluntarily, although there is no legal obligation to do so.

U.S. law requires only the publication of a financial statement that estimates assets, including debt and revenue, but does not give details on the amount of taxes paid.

The rise of left-wing, anti-Trump fake news
[BBC] Since the US election presidential race, fact checking websites report what seems like an increase in anti-Trump, 'liberal fake news'.

The fact-checking site Snopes told BBC Trending radio that in the past week, for example, they have debunked many more anti-Republican party stories than pro-Republican ones.

One example of an incorrect story is the unflattering, digitally-manipulated image, which suggested that US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
had diarrhoea during a recent golf outing. Another falsely suggested that President Trump profited from the US missile strikes in Syria

It's hard to gather definitive data on the political bias in fake news stories, so the evidence for a rise in 'liberal fake news' is essentially anecdotal. But a recent study did effectively debunk the stereotype that fake news tends to be shared more by uneducated people or those with right-leaning politics, as compared to other groups.

"Fascinating and frightening"
"It [fake news] affects both the right and the left. It affects educated and uneducated. So the stereotypes of it being simply right-wing and simply uneducated are 100% not true," says Jeff Green, who is the CEO of Trade Desk, an internet advertising company that was recently commissioned by American TV channel CBS to investigate who is reading and sharing fake news online.

His company did this by initially putting out two fake news stories - one from the left which falsely stated police had raided a protestors camp at Standing Rock and burnt it down, and the other from a right-wing website about false claims there was a congressional plot to oust Donald Trump.

Government
Sweeping change at DOJ under Sessions
[THEHILL] Attorney General Jeff Sessions has brought sweeping change to the Department of Justice.
Good. It desperately needed doing.
In just two months as the nation’s top cop, Sessions has moved quickly to overhaul the policies and priorities set by the B.O. regime.

He has rolled back protections for transgender students that allowed children to use the bathroom that corresponds with their gender identity and rescinded plans to phase out the federal government’s use of private prisons.

He called for a review of reform agreements, known as consent decrees, reached with local police departments to address allegations of misconduct. Many of the consent decrees were drafted in response to fating shootings by police.

Sessions has made immigration enforcement a top priority. Late last month he put "sanctuary" cities on notice, announcing that grant money would be withheld from state and local governments that refuse to cooperate with federal authorities and turn over illegal immigrants colonists enjugged
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
for crimes.

Federal prosecutors have also been alerted to a new national push to crack down on violent crime. Sessions tapped Steven Cook, a federal prosecutor and outspoken opponent of criminal justice reform, to lead the charge as assistant deputy attorney general; he will be leading Sessions’ new Task Force on Crime Reduction and Public Safety.

Alex Whiting, faculty co-director of the Criminal Justice Policy Program at Harvard Law School, said it appears Sessions is resurrecting the tough on crime policies last seen during the George W. Bush administration.

"Obama moved away from that approach, and I think in the criminal justice world there seemed to be a consensus between the right and left that those policies, those rigid policies of the war on drugs and trying to get the highest sentence all the time, had failed," he said.
