Kunduz-Takhar Highway Cleared Of Taliban
[Tolo News] The Kunduz-Takhar Highway was cleared of Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
on Friday following heavy festivities between government forces and the group’s fighters in past eight days, the Northeast Zone Police said in a statement.

Mahfoozullah Akbari, front man for the Northeast Zone Police, said that Khwaja and Katakhail police outposts along the highway were taken out of the turbans’ siege in the military operation conducted by Afghan security and defense forces.

He said they had equipped police outposts along the Kunduz-Takhar Highway after they cleared the area of Taliban.

The road from Kunduz city to Khanabad district in Kunduz province is closed to traffic for past eight days due to heavy festivities between security forces and Taliban.

"The government forces were connected to each other from the two sides ‐ Takhar and Kunduz provinces - at 12:45pm on Friday," Akbari said in the statement.

According to him, at least six Taliban fighters were killed and four others were maimed in Thursday night festivities in the province.

He said civilians were not allowed to travel through the highway due to the existence of mines, adding that the forces are busy in reopening the highway to traffic by Friday evening.

(NDS) office in Kunduz said that Ahmad Shah, a Taliban Überstürmbannführer, was killed with his 11 fighters in an Arclight airstrike carried out by Afghan forces in Qala-e-Zal district.

An NDS official in Kunduz said that at least 30 Taliban fighters including their commander was killed in recent festivities in Khanabad district in the province.

On Thursday local security officials in Kunduz said mines planted by the Taliban and the group’s use of civilian houses as shields was slowing down their operations to clear the province of Death Eaters.

'Heavy Clashes' Ongoing In Baghlan’s Burka District
[Tolo News] A group of Talibs attacked security forces’ outposts in Burka district in Baghlan province at mid-night on Thursday, security sources confirmed on Friday.

The sources said the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
has arrived close to the district governor’s office and heavy festivities are ongoing between government forces and the bad boys.

Sources have said that the Taliban fighters have entered the Baghlan district through Takhar and Kunduz provinces.

Reinforcements have arrived at the area to help government forces in the district.

The sources said that at least 30 Talibs were killed in the battle.

According to the sources, up to 20 Afghan soldiers were killed or maimed in the festivities.

On Thursday, security officials in Baghlan said Talibs have suffered a heavy casualty toll in the province and have been pushed back by government forces in the past two weeks following the launch of their summer offensive.

The officials said the Taliban’s offensive in Baghlan has so far failed and the province has become a "grave" for the fighters of the group.

Turkey detains dozens of former bourse staff over Gulen links : Media
[AlAhram] Turkish police detained 53 former employees of the Istanbul stock exchange on Friday over alleged links to the U.S.-based holy man accused of orchestrating last July's attempted coup, Haberturk newspaper said.

The suspects were the latest among some 150,000 people investigated in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
regarding the failed putsch. Some 49,000 of the suspects have been remanded in jug pending trial.

Prosecutors ordered the detention of 102 people as part of the bourse-related investigation, Haberturk said on its website. Ankara has blamed the network of the holy man Fethullah Gulen
... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world...
for the failed coup. Gulen has denied involvement.

Dawn raids were launched on 70 addresses, targeting suspects who were removed from their posts at Borsa Istanbul in the wake of the attempted putsch on July 15, 2016, Haberturk said.

Prosecutors in the Turkish capital Ankara ordered the detention of another 38 people, former employees of educational facilities linked to Gulen that were closed down after the coup, state-run Anadolu news agency reported.

It said police have so far detained 16 in that operation across 12 provinces.

About 145,000 civil servants, security personnel and academics have also been suspended or sacked as part of a related purge.

Last week, Turkey dismissed 107 judges and prosecutors over alleged links to the putsch in what was the third major purge since President Tayyip Erdogan was granted sweeping new powers in a referendum last month on constitutional changes.

The mass detentions were initially supported by many Turks, who supported Erdogan in blaming Gulen. But criticism has mounted as the arrests widened, with relatives of many of those detained or sacked denying their involvement in the coup and calling them victims of a purge.

25 killed as Deputy Chairman Senate Haideri's convoy hit by explosion in Mastung

's Mastung district, which is around an hour's drive from the quiet provincial capital, Quetta.

The bombing took place near a local seminary shortly after Friday prayers.

Deputy Chairman Senate Abdul Ghafoor Haideri
...Central Secretary General of JUI-F, member of the Pak senate, formerly provincial minister of Balochistan. He has a master's degree in Islam and runs a madrassah...
's convoy was hit in the attack. The kaboom occurred right as Haideri's convoy was exiting the seminary.

A Senate director staff, Iftikhar Mughal, was reportedly killed in the attack.

It is unclear whether the kaboom was the result of an improvised bomb (IED) or a suicide kaboom. Police say the attack is likely to have been a suicide kaboom.

Haideri had been invited to the seminary for an investiture ceremony, DawnNews reported.
Sounds like an inside job.
An eyewitness present at the event said the guests were leaving for a luncheon when Haideri's convoy came under attack.
Walked right into the setup. Maybe he drove.
The eyewitness told DawnNews that there was an kaboom, followed by sustained firing. "After the air cleared, we saw bodies everywhere."

A police car was part of Haideri's security detail and police officials are among those injured in the blast, another eyewitness said.

While speaking briefly to media, he said he had suffered minor injuries but was otherwise fine.

He has been shifted to Combined Military Hospital Quetta for treatment. His condition, according to Balochistan government front man Anwar ul Haq Kakar, is "safe and sound".

Palestinian shot dead in West Bank clash with IDF — medics
[IsraelTimes] A Paleostinian youth was rubbed out during festivities with the IDF in the West Bank on Friday, the Paleostinian health ministry said.

The man was shot during protests which are held weekly near the village of Nabi Saleh, north of Ramallah, and later died in a nearby hospital, the ministry said in a statement.

The dead man was named as Saba’ Nidal Obaid, 20.
He is now free from all fears and woe, the lucky duck. No more worries about which black hoodie to wear to the weekly riot, no more pondering whether this is the week he commits suicide by IDF with a knife from the kitchen of his mother...
The Israeli army said in a statement to AFP it was "aware of reports" that a protester had been killed but could not confirm it.

"A violent riot involving dozens of Paleostinians hurling rocks at (Israeli army) forces broke out earlier today," a spokeswoman said.

Dispersal means, including firing live ammunition, were used "in response to that imminent threat," she added.

According to a report in Paleostinian news agency Ma’an, more than 30 Paleostinians were maimed during festivities between hundreds of Paleostinian protesters and IDF forces, most of them from rubber bullets.

Syrian Army Makes Gains in Rebel Area of Damascus
[An Nahar] Syrian government forces have gained ground in a rebel-held district of Damascus as part of the regime's efforts to push holy warriors into accepting an evacuation deal, a monitor said Thursday.

In fighting since Wednesday night, "regime troops have managed to advance in the Qabun district" of eastern Damascus, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

It said they had seized control of a number of apartment blocks and an electricity firm in Qabun, one of six districts of the capital outside government control.

A Syrian army soldier was killed on Thursday, said the Britannia-based group.

"This is a new attempt to tighten the net around the rebels to push them to accept an evacuation deal," according to the Observatory's head, Rami Abdel Rahman.

A pro-regime military source on the ground has told AFP that the rebels have refused to be relocated to the northwestern province of Idlib, as in the case of previous evacuations of fighters and their families.

They want to be transferred to the rebel bastion of Eastern Ghouta in Damascus province.

On Monday, in the first such evacuation from a Damascus district, more than 1,000 rebels and family members left Barzeh, with the regime granting them safe passage in exchange for their surrender.

But the evacuation from Barzeh, expected to run for five days, appeared to have stalled on Wednesday, with the Observatory saying the regime had failed to comply with a pledge to release 15 prisoners as part of the deal.

The Barzeh operation follows a model of "reconciliation deals" implemented across the country.

More than 1,200 'Quit Damascus Rebel Zones' under Deal
[An Nahar] More than 1,200 people including rebels left two opposition-held districts of Damascus on Friday under an agreement that will bring Syria's government closer to exerting full control over the capital.

For more than two years, the government of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Trampler of Homs...
has touted such "reconciliation deals" as the best way to end the country's brutal war.

Friday's evacuations were part of the first such deal for the Syrian capital itself.

According to Syrian state news agency SANA, 718 rebels were among a total of 1,246 people evacuated from the Damascus districts of Barzeh and Tishrin.

"The exit of armed fighters and their families will be completed in several waves in the coming days until the district is completely free of any signs of armed people," the agency said.

Earlier on Friday, SANA said that 664 people including 103 rebels had left the northern district of Barzeh, but it did not give a number for Tishrin.

A source from the pro-government National Defense Forces confirmed the same number of evacuees from Barzeh and told AFP they left on 12 buses.

"The evacuations are part of the deal reached first in Barzeh, to which the neighboring northeastern district of Tishrin was later added," the source said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that months of negotiations had been held to secure the evacuations of three rebel districts of Damascus: Barzeh, Tishrin and Qabun, also in the northeast.

The deal for Barzeh was agreed first and the evacuations began on Monday, with 1,022 people including 560 rebels leaving the district and heading to the country's north.

Talks over Tishrin continued in secret throughout the week until Friday, according to Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman.

No deal has yet been reached on Qabun, where government forces on Thursday seized control of a number of apartment blocks and a power station, the Observatory said.

Abdel Rahman said the advance was part of efforts to push rebels there to join the evacuation agreement.

Syria's government has announced its intent to include more Damascus neighborhoods in the deal, among them Qabun and the Paleostinian camp of Yarmuk in the south.

"We are working on Qabun and there is the Yarmuk camp, where talks are under way for the evacuation of gangs," Foreign Minister Walid Muallem said earlier this week.
