Gunmen Kill Nine Aid Workers in Balkh
[Tolo News] A group of unknown gunnies on Monday night killed nine aid agency workers from the Czech Republic's People in Need organization - among them a woman - in northern Balkh province, local officials said.

Meanwhile in a statement, President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
strongly condemned killing of aid workers and called the perpetrators "enemies of progress and development in Afghanistan."

Calling it a "coward act," Ghani has ordered the interior ministry to launch investigations and arrest the perpetrators.

The incident took place in Zare district after a number of Lions of Islam attacked the aid agency's compound, a front man for Provincial Governor, Ahmad Muneer Farhad said.

"First they rubbed out two security guards of the aid agency. After that they rubbed out nine employees among them a woman," he said.

According to officials, the Czech agency works with farmers in the province and helps provide them with seed.
BBC adds:
The charity - People in Need (PIN) - said the victims were "killed in their beds while they were sleeping".

PIN said it had suspended all of its work in Afghanistan and was adopting measures to strengthen the security of its employees in the country. The charity has been working in Afghanistan since 2002, delivering aid to remote communities in the east and north of the country.

Tuesday's attack comes just weeks after 14 people were killed in a Taliban attack on a guesthouse popular with international aid workers in the capital, Kabul.

Mellitah official kidnapped: staff protest
[Libya Herald] Staff working with Mellitah Oil and Gas have protested outside the National Oil Corporation in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
at the kidnapping of Yusuf Al-Shamani, a member of Mellitah's administrative committee, who was seized by a gang while travelling between Tripoli and Sabratha on Sunday.

Condemning the abduction and holding the government responsible for the kidnapping, the protestors demanded yesterday it take action to ensure Shamani was freed. They also demanded better protection for oil workers saying that they were being caught between the country's warring factions.

In a statement, Mellitah said that at the moment it did not know who was behind the kidnapping but was hoping that the kidnappers would make contact.

Kidnappings continue to plague Tripoli. Most are for financial ransom although some are political. On Sunday the body of former Ciongress member body Salem Ali Hamali, who was kidnapped ten days earlier, was found south of Tripoli.

two top leaders of the outlawed Moslem Brüderbund - once the country's most influential political group - after two years on the run.

The official says Abdel-Rahman al-Bar, the group's top religious holy man, and Mahmoud Ghozlan, the Brotherhood's former front man and a member of its top decision-making body, were hiding in a Giza suburb when they were arrested Monday. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press.

Egyptian authorities launched a massive crackdown on the 87-year-old Brotherhood after the ouster of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi by the military in July 2013. Morsi, who hails from the Brotherhood, was tossed after millions staged demonstrations demanding he step down.

More on the Iman's peaceful little brother
The man shot and killed Tuesday by Boston police was plotting with another suspect to behead a cop, a law enforcement source told FoxNews.com
Just another gentle giant...
The dead suspect, 26-year-old Usaama Rahim, was under surveillance by the Joint Terrorism Task Force when he was shot at about 7 a.m. near a CVS in the city's Roslindale neighborhood, when he brandished the blade at police. Later Tuesday, authorities arrested another suspect, David Wright, in connection with the case, police said.
Clearly a "suicide by cop"...
"We believe the intent was to behead a police officer," one official told The Boston Globe. "We knew the plot had to be stopped. They were planning to take action Tuesday."

Rahim was shot outside a CVS Pharmacy in Roslindale, Mass. at approximately 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Boston Police Commissioner William Evans told reporters that members of the Joint Terrorism Task Force approached Rahim to question him about "terrorist-related information" they had received when he moved toward officers with the knife.

Evans said officers repeatedly ordered Rahim to drop the knife but he continued to advance. He said task force members fired their guns, hitting Rahim once in the torso and once in the abdomen. Rahim was taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Later, the FBI and local police arrested a man at a home in Everett, Mass., in an action authorities said was related to the Roslindale shooting. Christina Diorio-Sterling, a spokeswoman for U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz, said Wright was taken into custody from his home in suburban Everett. She said Wright will face federal charges and is expected to appear in U.S. District Court on Wednesday.

WFXT reported that three different Joint Terrorism Task Force teams had been carrying out 24-hour surveillance on at least three different people in the Boston area, though it was unclear how long that had been going on.The plot may have been inspired by the terror group ISIS, who have repeatedly called on followers in the United States to attack law enforcement officials or military installations.

Evans did not comment on the report that Rahim had been radicalized by ISIS, but said "Obviously, there was enough information there where we thought it was appropriate to question him about his doings ... He was someone we were watching for quite a time."
He didn't need to be radicalized by ISIS. There's plenty of other sources to radicalize him...
Evans said the officers didn't have their guns drawn when they approached Rahim. He said police have video showing Rahim "coming at officers" while they are backing away. That account differs from one given by Rahim's brother Ibrahim Rahim, who said in a Facebook posting that his youngest brother was killed while waiting at a bus stop to go to his job.
Who you going to believe, the brother or your own lying eyes?
"He was confronted by three Boston Police officers and subsequently shot in the back three times," he wrote. "He was on his cellphone with my dear father during the confrontation needing a witness."

There is surveillance video from the scene which will be released after Rahim's family and civil rights advocates view the footage.
Why would "civil rights advocates" get to see the footage before I do?
WFXT reported that Rahim worked in loss prevention at several CVS stores in the Boston area. However, it was not clear that the store where he was killed was among them. Boston voter registration records seen by the Associated Press list Rahim as a student. Other records indicate that as recently as two years ago he was licensed as a security officer in Miami, but don't specify in what capacity.

The Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center said its security firm hired Rahim as a security guard for a month in mid-2013. Executive director Yusufi Vali said Rahim didn't regularly pray at the center and didn't volunteer there or serve in any leadership positions.

The FBI and Rhode Island State Police also searched a property in Warwick, R.I. in relation to the Roslindale shooting. Police sealed off a street, requiring anyone who lived there to show identification to pass the police cordon, but it was not clear if they had anyone in custody.

A 17-year-old told the Boston Globe that police had asked him about a neighbor in his mid-20s named Nick. The teen told the paper Nick often wears long robes and prays in his front yard.

#6  An Nahar answers the question why civil rights advocates and others got to view the surveillance footage before it was released:

A Muslim community leader, who was shown a video of the incident by police and the FBI, said the footage was inconclusive but expressed doubts over the family's account.

"It was not at a bus stop. He was not shot in the back," said imam Abdullah Faaruuq.

It was not clear what happened and the knife was not visible but "he was approaching them. They did back up," Faaruuq said.

Evans said the video showed five law enforcement officers retreating with their hands up, and that witness and officer accounts had detailed commands on the suspect to drop his weapon.

"You see them go a good 15 yards with a threat coming at them. We can all agree. The weaponry is not clear, but with five officers coming at them, there was no doubt in the video," said Boston Police Commissioner William Evans.

Man killed by Boston police was Usaama Rahim
Followup from yesterday. This is from the brother of the newly departed on his Facebook page. Can't vouch for how long it will be there.
Your prayers are requested:
This morning while at the bus stop in Boston, my youngest brother Usaama Rahim was waiting for the bus to go to his job. He was confronted by three Boston Police officers and subsequently shot in the back three times. He was on his cell phone with my dear father during the confrontation needing a witness. His last words to my father who heard the shots were:
I can't breathe!
While at the hospital, Usaama Rahim died!
From Allah we come, and to Allah we return.
Imam Ibrahim Rahim
This part is from the Boston Herald and is in the usual link in the headline, from yesterday's edition:
An armed man in his 20s being surveilled by the FBI counterterrorism unit was shot and killed by an FBI agent and a Boston police officer in Roslindale this morning, according to Boston Police Commissioner William Evans.

"He was on foot, under surveillance," Evans said. "The officers have been surveilling him and again they wanted to speak to him ... and he turned and our officers gave several commands for him to drop the weapon and unfortunately he came at the officers and they did what they were trained to do and that's never an easy decision for any officer to make."

One FBI agent and one BPD officer fired, FBI Special Agent in Charge Vincent B. Lisi said.

Evans said the suspect was wielding a large military-style black knife that he could have "done a lot of damage" with.

"I think our officers tried their best with the FBI to try to convince him to put down the knife but he didn't leave us a choice," Evans said. "It's an active investigation with the joint terrorism task force ... It's very fluid it's ongoing, but we have one male shot and as you can see it is a very active scene."

The suspect was declared dead at Brigham & Women's Hospital, Evans said.

"All we know is the joint terrorism task force was on this guy and when they confronted him to speak with him he turned and came at the officers and unfortunately he was shot dead," Evans said.

Boston police Lt. Mike McCarthy said the suspect is of Middle Eastern descent and had been under surveillance "for weeks," including this morning.

An eyewitness who declined to give his name said the suspect was armed with a knife and had a "scabbard" when he lunged at police and was shot.

Dozens of police officers have swarmed the small shopping plaza and officers are seeking surveillance video from a nearby Dunkin' Donuts, employees said.

ASWJ member shot dead
[DAWN] ISLAMABAD: A senior member of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat
...which is the false nose and plastic mustache of the murderous banned extremist group Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain, whatcha might call the political wing of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi...
(ASWJ) was bumped off in the suburbs of Islamabad on Monday, police said.

Maulana Ilyas Khan was targeted when he was travelling in his car after leading Isha prayer in Jamia Masjid Hasnain located in Soan Garden. Multiple gunshots caught the attention of the people, who rushed to the scene of the crime and found him dead in the car.

A police team reached the spot and shifted the body to the hospital. Police said the victim was reportedly affiliated with the ASWJ, but did not hold any position in the party.

The killer(s) targeted him with 9mm pistol(s) and later escaped.

"Circumstantial evidence suggested that the attackers were two who escaped on a cycle of violence," he added.

"Unfortunately there is no eyewitness in the incident available so far," he added.

An activist of the ASWJ told Dawn that Maulana Ilyas was a senior member of the party but did not hold any office in the party.

Two to three persons guarded him during his movement, but there was no information about them whether they were accompanying him at the time of the incident or not, he added.

ISIS shuts down Ramadi Dam in Iraq
Daesh shut down Ramadi Dam on Tuesday and cut water flow to areas controlled by the Iraqi security forces east of the city in Anbar province, a senior military official said.
Dams are so tenth century...
Brigadier General Aziz Khalaf al-Tarmouz, an Anbar security advisor, told Anadolu Agency that Daesh seized control of Ramadi Dam, on the Euphrates River north of the city.

“Daesh cut water flow to al-Khalediya district and al-Habbaniya area, which are under the control of security forces and tribal fighters,” al-Tarmouz said. The security advisor said the incident may cause a wave of civilian displacement from the area.

On May 17, Daesh took control of Ramadi after overrunning government forces.

Nusra Front attacks Hezbollah outposts near Arsal
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] The Nusra Front claimed Tuesday that it had killed several Hezbollah Death Eaters and confiscated their weapons in an attack on two of the party's outposts near Arsal's outskirts.

The jihadi group announced on its Twitter account that its Death Eaters attacked two Hezbollah positions between the outskirts of the Lebanese villages of Nahleh and Arsal and posted several photos of weapons it had seized in the raid.

It did not specify the number of Hezbollah fighters killed, but said that all stationed at the two outposts were dead.

Hezbollah's Al-Manar TV also reported that Nusra's Death Eaters attacked two party positions in the area of Harf Mohsen, but said the attack was foiled and several jihadis we killed.

It did not mention any deaths among Hezbollah's fighters.

Hezbollah and the Syrian army launched an offensive in the Qalamoun region on May 4, capturing dozens of myrmidon bases and driving Syria-based jihadis north toward the outskirts of the northeastern Lebanese border town of Arsal.

The joint offensive has resulted in the capture of more than 310 square kilometers out of the 780 square kilometers of Lebanese and Syrian lands that the jihadis had controlled last month.

Nusra Front is the most prominent jihadi faction operating in Qalamoun, while ISIS is also present in some areas but in smaller numbers.

Tensions between the two jihadi groups have also risen dramatically recently, prompting the Nusra Front to promise the "eradication" of ISIS from the area.

Together, the two jihadi groups hold a total of 25 Lebanese servicemen hostage in hideouts in Arsal's outskirts that they kidnapped during deadly festivities with the Army in Arsal.

[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] ِAl Qaeda's Syria wing, the Nusra Front, has executed sons of a tribe leader over charges of cooperating with Syrian regime army in northern Idlib province, activists said Tuesday.

Nayef and Abdulhai, sons of Sheikh Nouri Nawaf al-Jerkh, head of al-Hadedeyin tribe, had their heads chopped off after being accused of smuggling food and aid to Bashir al-Assad forces in Abu Dhour military airport, which has been under Nusra's seige since months.

Al-Hadedeyin tribe has big influence in Hama, Homs and Idlib provinces and its considered as one of the most loyal tribes to Assad.

Syrian Defense Minister, Fahd Jasem al-Fraij is a member of al-Hadedeyin tribe as well as the commander of powerful Dumeir military airport, Jayez Mousa.
